I hope so, last time I heard a noise like that it was a failing PSU but this one is definitely coming from the GTX 280.

I've got till Monday to RMA it so if it's got a fault I hope it shows itself soon.

I have exactly the same. At high FPS there's this horrible buzzing/squealing, I had it on my old 8800 but this is much much louder.

I understand it's just cheap capacitors or something along those lines.

I was sitting on the floor next to my pc while running 3Dmark 06 and I heard a high pitched electronic noise coming from my pc during every introduction screen.

The noise happens as each intro screen fades in and again when it fades out but during the benchmark it is totally silent (other than the fan)...I've traced it to the GTX 280 and so far as I can tell it doesn't happen in anything else.

My PSU was bought last year, 750w Thermaltake and I've tried disconnecting any extra hard drives and things that don't need to be attached but the noise still happens so I think the PSU is fine.

Is this normal? :(

which card, out of curiosity?

I don't get it during actual 3D rendering it seems, I've run furmark at a low resolution to get several hundred frames a second and tried it in stress mode too.

It only seems to happen during 2D scenes that fade from black

Yeah I probably agree with that. I hear it when the intro screens of crysis are on etc. There's also a whine audible in some games when there's a lot of lighting effects going on. Still, the card is awesome despite this.

you know what its like :) I finally get tri-sli working properly with 260s and had a moment of total insanity :) so I bought 3 280s to replace them ;)

You sir win this weeks insanity award. :D

Never actually seen a tri-sli 260 rig as I have only ever played with it when it is 280 cards, what sort of Vantage score do they manage? Good temps?

Even I think thats mad, they're better but not so good as to replace 3 GTX 260's! I hope your selling the old cards at least :p

Why thank you :p

I get from a i7 920 @ 3.8 (71c) on an EVGA X58 with 3 x 260s 216s 29K in Vantage. The temps are very good sitting around the 60c mark on the hottest card and the fans never spin up.

haha! that's quality mate, which 260's did you have?

all 3 were 260 216s 2 EVGA and 1 POV

EVGA card in the middle for warranty if it went wrong?

Tri-SLi 260 is a rare thing, very impressive performance in vantage that and seems to scale quite well. The 280 will get an artificial boost in physx score when 3x.

Unsure where you will see any extra performance in current titles but please prove me wrong with a quick comparisson! I am really tempted to just try a 260 Tri-SLi setup now but do not have enough time. :(

It does seem to scale pretty well, especially after getting the drivers sorted.

Far Cry 2 seems pretty nice as well

1920 x1200 Ultra High Dx10 and 8xAA

High 111
Low 60
Av 78

It was just at the price of the 280s it was hard to pass up...

Quite impressed by that J1nxy, are the fans on auto setting?

Sorry for so many questions but never thought about doing a 3x 260 rig thats all!
