NOW RESOLVED.

if you have your bios pci-e clock set to 110mhz which was fine with an ati 4870x2 it seems the 295gtx doesnt like it. I have set it to 101mhz now and all is just fine. :D


Hi Guys,

ok gonna have to hold my hand up, i was sucker for the 295gtx,

Anyways a clean install. using 181.20 drivers. every time i launch vantage it gets to the same point and hard locks.

Same in games, i can play for about 45secs then the display hard locks, im unable to alt tab or anything, Strange thing is i was on skype chatting to a mate and that was fine still.

Any ideas

Im new to the nvidia camp :(

psu is fine Bequiet 1200wat
asus p6t oc palm
Core i7 920 @4ghz temps on that are fine its under water.


My ATI 4870x2 is fine when re-fitted again with a clean install to be sure an it works fine :( doesnt look good for the 295gtx :( is it possible i received a faulty card?

as said, im new to the nvidia camp, whats the best tool for checking temps?

Can hardly hear the fan on it, so dont think its getting too hot.

Also whats with useless without pics?? hows that going to help? why would you want pics of the card or of a stuck screen lol :p
 
Download Rivatuner for temps and fan control/overclocking and GPUZ is just useful to have :p

I would first check temps then try some different drivers, removing the old ones using DriverCleaner :)

Oh just a thought but have you checked the 6&8pin pcie power cables are securely connected?

Yeah your the first one to surface with a 295 system, so it's your duty to post some pictures :)
 
For those who wants pics,

sorry about the quality.

Lianli 343b case, with custom watercooling, nothing special. I keep the pipes longish so i can chop and change mobo's/gfx cards and such.





Will get the mentioned apps and report back lol

lol right at idle riva reports temps on gpu0 at 51c and gpu1 at 50c

so not too bad.

I think its going to be a case of trying older drivers.


Whats a better site to host on then? Imageshack.us was taking a while to upload them, mind you my 20mb virgin connection is running at 5mb down and 256k up at the moment :(

Photobucket, its okay though, they work now.

You could always try a HDD reformat to fix the GPU issues. OTT though and hassle of course.

Done,

You see what happened i fitted the card, then installed windows 7, i managed to snag the download while at work, (just got a key btw lol)

Anyway i installed that, though this is nice, now to try wow and bam it hard locks, but skype was ok.

So thought i would try vantage, same thing, about 40/50 secs game time then it hard locks, but skype is still ok.




So full format and install of viasta ultimate, with sp1, and same results :(

have tried both the 181.20 us and full fat all language drivers incase it was a but within them.

And yes Vista 64bit
 
The card didnt come with a driver cd,

Came with a leaflet saying to get the latest drivers from Nvidia as they were not available when the product shipped lol filled me with a lot of confidence
