Insurance for new drivers, stupidly cheap.

They can only void/avoid a policy once they find out so say I crash at 2pm and they find out something at 2:30pm they still have to pay out.

What?! Speak english man. If you have an undeclared modification on your car and you have crash, and the engineer who checks over your car spots it, the insurer is totally within their rights to cancel the cover.

well I tried it today and left my keys in the ignition and walked away from my car but my ins is still inforce.

Are you saying you left your keys in your car and allowed your car to be stolen?

Please prove me wrong by showing me Where in the policy it states that the ins can void/avoid my policy for those reasons. like the old you have no insurance if ya tax runs out or your mot has expired.

Old wives tales

They can't deny third party claims as they are bound by law to honour them. However, they certainly can deny a claim by the policy holder if they feel that incorrect information was given to obtain the policy.

So TPFT is the best option for this?

Thats exactly why the arguement about them voiding a policy is BS.

Like I said prove it and I'll stand down.

I have had disussions over on peppipoo etc. regarding this and whislt its a grey area my point stands.

My point over leaving my keys in the ignition was in response to someone in another thread jumping straight onto the well your insurance is void arguement.

Again not trying to start an arguement, more a case of show us the evidence regarding the insurance in this day and age being able to void policies as a result of a modification.

if it was that easy all the drivers using none standard equipment tyres would be driving without insurance.

I'm trying to get a point across without being pedantic.

There are lots of misleading wives tales surrounding insurance and driving in general. just trying to sort one of them out.:)

There is also the one regarding being able to drive someone elses car third party some peole think that the other car has to be insured. When in fact the only factor is that your name is NOT on the log book. Even some police get this one wrong

my only experience with an insurance claim was when a friend of mine wrote off his car, we found out which garage it had been taken too and we're busy stripping it of alloys, uprated brakes etc etc when the assesor turned up. He said he didnt care as long as it had wheels and brakes etc on it when it was left. According to the internets he should've shot us on sight and then not paid out.

Hopefully I pass my test before this is sorted. :D

Because they will realise that its a glitch in the system. Think they have 14 days to cancel the policy, and they will catch on by then because there will be lots of people trying this on over the next few days which will start to raise eyebrows.

They can cancel your policy at any time, not just within 14 days, for whatever reason they see fit.

eCar Policy Document said:
1. Cancellation
You have the right to cancel Your Policy during a period of 14 days either from the day of purchase of the contract or the day on which You receive Your policy documentation, whichever is the later. If You wish to cancel and the insurance cover has already commenced, You will be entitled to a refund of the premium paid (as long as You have not made any claims), subject to a deduction for the time you have been covered and for any cost incurred by Us in issuing the policy.
eCar Insurance may cancel this Policy by sending You not less than seven days notice by recorded delivery to Your last known address. We will reimburse You on a pro rata basis the premium for the period of insurance still remaining.
You may cancel this Policy at any time by notifying us the cancellation in your policy records on www.ecarinsurance.co.uk and by returning the Certificate of Motor Insurance. On cancellation of your policy any refund of premiums will be calculated in accordance with Our scale of charges (subject to no claims being made) and paid to You after deducting our cancellation charge.
Please refer to the eCar Insurance terms of business.

well it called the same price for me..even if I put in no excess, legal cover and protected NCB only goes up £40...
pity really as the normal price I pay is £190.....for all that anyway

and I'd have to pay out £50 to get some bling spanky new brake hoses.

bullit

Someone even said he got pulled and Police were happy with his documents. I'd imagine you'd be in trouble if a 17 year old bins his Golf GTI or 330ci or something and needs to use the cover though.

Funny that it's been around so long.

If the cover was still in tact at the time of the accident, they would have to pay out.

This is stupid - take the policy out, it'll last a few months if that and they'll pull it and you'll need to find new insurance. Don't rely on it, that's for sure. You'll lose out on a few months worth of NCB too.
