internal hard drive advice for 6yo intel mobo

was looking at my neighbours old pc which needs upgrading

it's based on intel d845gebv2 motherboard

http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/bv2/

currently has a 80gb hard drive

it has a large case so plenty of room for an additional internal drive

is there a limit to what size ide drive that this mobo will support?

I wouldn't have thought so, I've got a couple of Compaq D530's here which are quite old and they had no issues with taking 160 gig drives in them.

The 845 chipset range supports 48bit LBA so disks >137Gb are supported OK although you will need the Intel Application Accelerator installed to get the correct drivers and the OS needs to be at least XP SP1 if you want to use all the space in a single partition.

remember that you'll need IDE drives unless you get a PCI SATA controller card.
