There seems no compelling reason not to buy this.

The review on dpreview is superb. It is exactly the quality compact I am after.

Does anyone disagree, or can offer advice on this? Should I consider anything else?

The only other at the moment is the Canon G10.

I would try to get your hands on both models to see which you like best as results wise there's really nothing between the two.

I did have the G9 - very much liked it (and its one of the reasons i am going to buy back this kind of camera, since using a typical crap compact it is very annoying) but my only problem was its size.

As such, I cant see how their in any competition for the LX3 for me. Unless there is something else on the horizon worth waiting for... but I can't see anything myself.

Im very very tempted to get one of these to replace my canon A640. Sometimes lugging my SLR around just isnt practical. The ability to shoot in RAW is excellent and it looks way smaller than the Canon G series. Might pop into town and have a fondle of it to see how it is.

I've got the LX3, purchased last year before any serious reviews;

+ much smaller compared to g10
+ smaller compared to g9
+ wide angle
+ f2.0 lens
+ OSI
+ raw

- short zoom (can be improved with the lower megapixel option)
- lens cap (that you either love/hate)
- retro design (that you either love/hate)

Mine was specifically purchased for its low light/fast lens ability, its the closest thing to a
35mm Fuji Natura S film camera.

Any other questions?

So closed to clicking the buy button...

I personally don't mind the lens cap, love the retro design and the shorter zoom shouldn't be a problem for me. Just get closer:p
It's the RAW that panasonic uses that might be a problem for me; how big is each RAW file (or perhaps, how many RAW files can you fit in say a 2GB SD Extreme 3? Fast writing?) Is the RAW compatible with Adobe Lightroom (only ever worked with DNG and C2R personally)?
I also know that the JPEG system (Jupiter?) sorts out the extreme lens barrel but how does it flare on RAW? Is the barrel distortion so extreme on the 24mm when shot in RAW?

And finally, what's your opinion for the White Balance for the camera? As much as the camera as a whole is raved, the WB from samples does makes me wonder (especially if I want to shoot JPEG only)

Would love for some sample shots if you have some david25 :)

Much appreciated.

RAW files are 10Mb each, there is a buffer (3/5 images) before it has to write, I find it very responsive.

Software packages have only just started to update their compatability, you do get Silkypix in the box, some ACR info here http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bc03c04.59b71cfa

Check the looooong discussions on dpreview for samples and info about RAW barrel distortion.

WB has just been improved in a 1.1 firmware release, its better than 1.0, again see the massive discsussion about the firmware on dpreview.

I'll post some samples tonight.

What is the cheapest anyone has found this for?

And why on earth is silver cheaper than black!?

Because the black is more popular. IMO, silver is nicer and apparently, with previous history of Panasonic Black cameras, the paint chips off. The cheapest I've found so far is using google.co.uk Can't hint you but you can see it. £302.42 delivered.

Good, just sanity checking I haven't missed anything.

However, I have seen that I can get it delivered from the states for £200 inc shipping. The problem is avoiding the tax... but even then it would still be cheaper, I think.

Mine arrived this morning and I'm very pleased with it so far, love the styling and photos so far (from an hour or two of messing) have been great.

Guys, Look on dpreview also for samples etc.

I have never understood trust thingy - I will let you know the source if I knew how?
