-== NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 Now Available! ==-

Nvidia will have to drop the price soon its not the etailors fault.

GTX285 is the fastest single card single GPU solution available right now its just that 4870X2 is much faster although not guaranteed to work with all games due to ATI not having the same driver team resource as Nvidia. Then GTX295 is also very fast and less than £100 more so Nvidia have got their prices well wrong on 285. Really they need to be around £275 max to get good sales.

I predict in a week or so they will be then you will see them sell out quickly.

the average joe though will buy an nvidia card because they are a massive well advertised company and when you get someone who is after a gaming pc, from say dell, they will just tick the box with an nvidia card cos every game they play has an nvidia logo same thing with amd/intel, i dont think i have EVER seen an amd advert, they just arnt known enough outside the enthusiast market.... thats how i feel. so nvidia can sell purely on reputation.

Nope, sorry. I am basing this on the fact that the only changes are:
Die shrink
MHz increases

The core is the same (just shrunk and clocked higher).
The shaders are the same (just clocked higher).
The memory is the same (just clocked higher).

I could very well be wrong though. Try dropping an email to NVidia or EVGA or BFG and see what they say.

Ignore my post then, I'm speaking out of my bottom.

edit -
Those of you with GeForce GTX 280 cards who were hoping you could mix your GTX 280 with the GTX 285 will be disappointed to hear that we tried this and SLI didn’t work, despite the fact that both GPUs essentially share the same basic core configuration.

"If you did upgrade, you would be able to run dedicated PhysX on one card though" - one expensive compensation I would have thought!

Think I did alright with my BFG 280 when they were going cheap.

Don't worry too much chaps, i'm sure this will come down in price in the coming months, the cards are usually more expensive on release remember. It's a shame (for everyone who didn't get a 280 cheap) that the performance wasn't as good as it could have been.

Another £60-70 from the price and it's in competitive territory I would think.
