A couple of people have been pulled over recently after the new noise regs came in, ordered to get the car MOT'd again as the Japspeed was too noisy. Both failed the MOT and are having to look at getting it silenced more or replacing it.
I am not a big fan of loud exhausts thats why i was careful when selected in the mongoose for my SX it has a nice burble on idle and crusing speeds so its not too intrusive on the motorway but when you give it some it does sound good but not annoyingly loud.
I think anyone with an excessively loud car looks like a pratt though
Don't think so, that must be a mythI thought cherry bombs were banned?
Anyway, punching some holes in the backbox and airbox (or just removing airbox completely and placing something like a pair of tights over the induction er.. hole) will make any car loud.

There's quite a big difference in sound between a well spiced engine and a stocker with a hole in the exhaust and no airbox. Most aftermarket exhausts just sound loud to me as well, not really tuned to my ear unless it's got a tubular manifold.
Congratulations on your definition of the word "selfish". The reason is consideration of others..
No its not somthing nice like an MR2 ,I think its an old fiesta .
Everyone else points and laughs.
Dad's student got an ASBO in his 205 for the exhaust being to loud![]()
Well if I put the standard cast manifold on my Anglia engine it would probably cough and splutter and not run properly BUT I've had a lot of head work done and a very wild cam. I don't have to rag my engine to make the car go which is most of what you hear out on the street - standard engines with loud exhausts and kids ragging them.Unless there is a tangible power benefit, and by that I mean a before and after dyno chart, not "it definitely feels faster" then I don't see the point. Usually derestricting an exhaust and ruining the positive resonance characteristics that the manufacturer designed will kill the bottom end or midrange and cause a step in the power. It "feels" faster because of the step, but more often than not it's slower.
My first car was failed because it was quite simply antisocial sounding. It's not a recent thing, if it's way over-loud and the tester doesn't like it he can fail it.According to page 3 of this link, an MOT tester now has the right to fail your car due to an aftermarket exhaust system. I don't buy it - how loud is too loud... surely to enforce something like this they need to sound test it at xxxx RPM?
I don't get how they don't find it embarrassing. If you're driving a proper sports car with a solid V8 engine under the bonnet then great, have an exhaust louder than an atomic bomb. If you're driving a piece of rubbish with a 1.2 litre engine, get a life.
Had a quick musing around Google and it appears the cherry bomb is outlawed on the fact of it not having any baffles. The exhaust must have a baffle to be conformant, but it's up to the tester/police officer to enforce.Don't think so, that must be a myth

Soon to return to my property is my '67 Anglia with a fairly serious 1700cc and twin Webers. There is nothing you can do to shut that thing up![]()
Had one of those on my ITR, fantastic piece of kit and only slightly louder when cruising along but a real nice bark when giving it some beansYou wanna find yourself a Fujitsubo RM-01A Mike, I have one on mine, its pretty quiet, but has a nice bassy idle note and sounds good when you give it the beans.
