Dawn of War II - GOLD

YES. Finally!

Had totally forgotten about this, played 1000's of matches online (Sad, I know), but gave it up about a year ago.

/Crosses off wishlist(ish), Alan Wake & Codemasters F1 to go...

So in the new one do you just pick a side and then you have to try and win with that? No building anything?

Exactly, It's not like past RTS games where you build the biggest armies and get a huge base, you get a certain amount of unit's (you can gain units by recon also) and have to think where they should hide/run to determine the outcome of a battle, rather than just sending them in and finding out who has da biggest gunz! :D.

Online MP still has base building though, just not SP.

Oh that is a shame. I would prefer it was all like that. I am quite good at tactical games but I am useless at building games. I always end up with like three men and a tank and the other team have a company of troops

That's why I always prefer a coop game vs. the ai rather than some chuff who tank rushes you ;) I prefer playing a slower more tactical game than trying to win it all within 3 mins of starting.

For the SS owners the Beta is now up a restart of Steam may be required to get to appear on the My Games list. It's a 2.4gb file by the way so shouldn't take too long to download.

Just trying to think of the cheapest way to purchase DoW II. It looks like I can get it for about £22 where as on Steam its over £30 (This is not a flame war in to Steam prices). If I bought the retail version, it install Steam as default and runs through that doesn't it? If so, does that mean it then becomes tied to the account with all patches/updates through steam & therefore becomes fully downloadable via steam instead of CD?

I doubt it very much, AFAIK only hard copy Valve games need to run through Steam. Should run just like an ordinary GFW game with securom etc.

You see I'm not so sure on this... Apparently Best Buy in the US has removed all retail copies of DOW2 because it installs Steam automatically, but I haven't seen full confirmation on this.

I thought the retail version of DoW2 uses games for windows live, not steam.

Yeah it does, but I think steam might be the distribution platform Relic have used for updates and the like. If you look at the bootscreen of the MP Beta at least, it contains the Steam logo along with all the others... Can anyone view the official page (I'm at work) and see if it tells us the requirements etc?

I cant see any mention of Steam on the official page!? It probably uses Steam as distribution/patch platform only if you actually buy it off of Steam. I had a quick go on the MP beta last night and i found Microsoft's "Live" system clunky and frustrating.
