Heads up for those with children - Don't miss out!

Afraid not, according to the notes, you can only claim for one child, even if you have more than one that would have been under 16. So its only £520 :D:p

says something about extra money if you actually had a baby within those 2 years......i think, unless i read it wrong

Ah, in that case i should get extra as well :D

Im taking my forms to the tax office tomorrow as its not clear where to take/send them.

I assume they will also need some form of ID, and the kids birth certificate, after anyone could fill this in and claim to have a child.

The form dosent really ask much information really

If i have a chance to get some of my money back then im going to bloody take it!
Too bloomin' right. I have no children to claim this for, so I'll just carry on abusing the heck out of my free bus pass instead. I have a hankering for another free day trip to Reading, or Basingstoke, or somewhere. :D

(Higher rate taxpayer with private medical and dental cover at your service)

So, families with children place more burden on health care, public service and so on, and get tax credits?

No disrespect to you sir, but to be honest there are other areas in government fiscal policies which are more of a drain to health care, public services and society than this.

In addition to this, I feel it inappropriate that the tax payer has to fork out for the lack of social behaviour but that's life eh.

Most of us will pay a life time of tax and NI, so as Cliffy says, if there is a chance of claiming some back, then I’ll grab it cos if I don’t some immigrant will.

I was 11 in 2003. So this means i could get some free monies?

No but your parents might :p

Although it's not strictly means tested, it tapers off for higher-rate tax payers. If more than £7,935 of your income is at the higher rate than it goes to 0. In 2002-2003 it was higher rate from £29,900 - so if your wage was £37,835 or more then you won't get anything.

Well that's my reading of it anyway.

I assume that's combined? ie: If myself and my partner (combined) earned more than that we are not eligable.

I don't believe we were ever eligable for Child Tax Credits because we basically earned too much (combined)!?

Just been passing the information around friends and family and it turns out it was also news in the sun among various other news papers so if you need some more links and info check the sun paper/website and also the full details are on the taxcredits website front page ;) with download links to the relevant requirments and forms to fill in etc.
