January Transfer Window Thread - rumours and signings here

I like Hicks

:eek::eek::eek:

The guy's a ****. I presume you're talking about the gossip section rather than an article by the BBC? The Telegraph, Times, Guardian and the Mail are running slight variations of the same story (that the Yanks or at least Hicks is in talks with some Kuwaiti family) so hopefully there's some truth in it and Hicks ****s off.

edit: and as for your question about whether Juve's reported offer is in Euros. It makes very little difference as the exchange rate is not far off 1 for 1.

Bullard is on about 20-25k, and thats pretty high for Fulham. Was said they're evaluate it end season, and if he were to leave, he'd be disliked like Malbranque leaving for Spurs, for more money. Hopefully he doesn't leave though, cos we rejected £5m from Bolton and thats a do-able move for him, as he moved from Wigan for London, for his family. Hull is a bit far, but hopefully he stays. We generally dont have all the fundings to give him what others can. I think he should be given a new contract, though.

THe thing is Malbranque asked to smeg off didn't he, while Bullard seems to want a contract but Hodgeson is refusing to budge and if Fulham are actively accepting offers its hardly a massive sign to Bullard that Fulham want him to stay. Turn down every offer and give him a new contract then Bullard putting in a transfer request is one thing and I could understand fans not being happy. But, your board/manager accepting a bid, refusing to give him a new contract and even refusing to talk about it, then Bullard leaving as he's securing his future, hardly something to get mad about.

Thing is, tbh, his age, at most clubs he'd already be on significantly more tbh, he's basically THE main player at Fulham, almost any other club in the premiership and the two or three top guys at the club will be on way more than 25k.

I'd prefer Arsenal to spend 5mil on bullard , than 15 on Arshavin, who can step in for Cesc till he's back, cover on right wing aswell and be very good for rotation, experience, proven premiership quality, give us someone other than RVP to take corners/freekicks as everyone else is awful. 1/3 the price, and proven quality, gives us another English player which isn't a bad thing. Arshavin might be great, might not be, but he's out of form, not played in ages, unproven at this level, seems a tad money hungry, could well be angling for a move in a year or two for higher wages.

Villa have agreed a £4m deal with Wigan for Heskey, thank **** for that he was linked with us for a while;)
Although to be fair it's probably a good deal for Villa and I'm surprised they got him so cheaply, perhaps they were the only ones to enquire about him as it was obvious Wigan wanted to sell him:)

Bullard wanted more £, and Fulham couldn't afford to give him extra, especially when we need to sign more people. But looks like Jimmy has gone to Hull (on SSN now), so Good Luck Jimmy.

It's pathetic joining Hull now, they'll probably go down (worst form in PL) and then what is he gonna do? Jump ship after six months? Should've just stayed at Fulham.

I agree. At a team with more players, he might phase out of the limelight, at Fulham we got him england callups, whether Hull can too, i don't know. Nevermind, he's basically gone now, be a bad reception tomorrow i think!

He was the star and had the same form at Wigan, he'll do well at Hull and they can easily stay up. Form is temporary, they could finish in a Euro spot. THe thing they need to do though is ditch Cousin, he's not an inteligent or good striker, early season before he came in they seemed more fluid and established form without him. He's not done to badly but they aren't as smooth an attacking force, he'll get a few goals from corners and the like but he's not going to do much else.

Especially with a Bullard in midfield then need a smart and pacey runner to get inbehind and latch on to throughballs.

Another thing is, Fulham haven't really shown any intention of pushing forwards in the league, Fayed seems happy where he is. Hull are at that stage Fulham were 5 years ago, a club pushing forwards and investing in the team. UNfortunately I think Fulham have been unlucky with the likes of Sanchez spending so much on players that had to be replaced cheap and quickly, without that Hodgeson should theoretically have a lot more to invest in the team.

Great move for Hull, poor move for Fulham. To be honest without a great striker in the team as a creative attacking midfielder/playmaker I'd be rather bored in that role at Fulham. Defensively superb, attacking not at all bad, upfront, poop.

Yeah, we've had a trimming of the squad, and looking at players in each position really. Hopefully sign a forward and a new midfielder and something on the left side.

Sad to see Heskey go but he is a money grabber, just cant see him starting for Aston Villa week in week out, he was going for free in the summer so £4 million, but why Bruce is going for Hunt, we have Cattermole and Brown.

Heskey only had 6 months left - so thats probaby why he was relatively cheap

I can see him winning a lot of games for them (if he can keep fit) - edit I agree he may not start a lot (apart from maybe when Young is banned)

I think Liverpool may be a little annoyed as I really think he would have done wonders for them, and freshening up their squad a little could be all the difference they need.....

As a Liverpool fan I'm glad to see him drift closer to a Villa move than one to Anfield.

He needs too much looking after and probably believes he has the physical presence of Gianfranco Zola. Potential throughout his career but I dare say he's never lived up to it, barring one season with Liverpool.

As a Villa supporter, I'm pretty pleased with the signing of the Big Man - awful scoring record aside, he's a presence, and for £3.5m in a day when dross like Chopra costs £5m+, it's not a bad price, irrespective of his contract ending in the summer....I just hope MON has some more quality lined up - we have a realistic chance to gatecrash the top 4, would be a real chance to waste it.

hehe, he's got almost no contract is old and is a striker that can't score. HIs presence, is useless. ZOMG, he's got a few assists. He's not worth 3.5mil even if he had 4 years left on his contract to be quite honest.

Not to mention he'll be on a fairly high wage at this point in his career and considering Carew is bigger, does more with the ball when he wins it and scores, when he's back theres no room in the squad for him at all.

For backup, and games where you want to rest a star or two, they have a couple younger people. Villa need more cover in midfield, a right winger/central, a creative player far more than heskey. Sure they'll get someone, though if you manage no long injuries in midfield you'll be fine and have a serious shot not just at 4th, but 3rd/2nd aswell. But theres a few players you just couldn't replace if injured as you just can't afford the quality of cover needed, really hope Villa push all the way, partially just so Wenger gets it in his head that spending a little cash on the key area's, makes you money in the long run.

Chopra isn't a good indicator of prices either, Keane spent bucketloads on all the wrong players, new manager given a huge budget and applied no sense and just spunked it fast.

Heskey always gets credit for being big and strong, but realistically most of his knockdowns go no where, for such a huge great header of the ball, he rarely scores from corners and the like. Give him a chance to run in behind and his bulk, and lack of ability mean he won't be scoring many one on ones or getting into those positions. Zaki's scored more goals from controlling a long ball himself and turning to run at goal, than from Heskey knock on's. Its all well and good winning a lot of headers from long balls(not convinced he even does that), but when the ball goes no where useful and its pure fluke when something comes from it, its not worth having.

Just watched the video from Hodgson on Bullard, they offered him the contract they could, he wanted more £. Nevermind, hes gone now!
