I have the Steam version. Should I assume you have set it not to automatically log into Games for Windows Live? If you are logged into that, and you start the game, it should pop up with a prompt telling you there is an update for the game available, and do you want to install it.

Goto the rockstar site and download it rockstar. Works fine for me and the saves still work, even though I can't finish the final mission :D I think setting the water detail to medium or high actually looks better then the default very high. Shadows still have the stupid stipple effect, whats the point of a shadow detail slider?

My GFWL never downloads patches I'm using steam but it still does it for non steam games.

Oh and I tried the patch briefly and couldn't tell any difference in performance - and the benchmark score was the same.

Still no AA either, quelle surprise.

I don't think we'll be getting another patch i'm afraid, in fact, i'd be suprised if one did.

The addition of the definition toggle is clearly as close at we'll get to AA, which is a shame, R*'s bad planning of this release has shot them in the foot.

It's a shame about all the glitches and bad performance, because under there is a great game, i'm enjoying it so far, except for the constant stuttering because my CPU can't keep up apparently.

I'm running it on a E6300 @ 2.8GHz with a 512Mb 4870 and I haven't expierienced any stuttering. Also just ran the benchmark with the new patch and got around 8 more frames then previously with the same settings.

Interesting, there was a guy on here a few days ago with the same CPU as me and an 8800gt who apparently was getting 50+ with nice performance.

Worth a reinstall maybe?

My problem is, it's got worse, particularly when i'm driving around, there is a lot of framerate variation and stuttering of random lengths, mostly very very short though. Looking at fraps, it can be running between 23-45fps now, but anywhere inbetween still feels stuttery.

This is with spec in sig.
I've defragged, and am on the latest patch (2).
Settings are now textures high, view and detail distance at 25, traffic at 25, shadow at 0.

Honestly though, changing the settings doesn't have much difference with stutters, just changes the average frames by one or two.

I'm wondering if something in my gfx driver settings could be messing with it.

Heres what settingI've got and the game runs pretty well. Averages around 36-45 fps. If it raining at night and is foggy the frames drop but the game is still playable.

Thanks, i'll try these out. The main difference is that I have the settings generally a lot lower on the sliders, but have high textures on. I'll try the performance with medium again. IIRC it was not much different from when I had my 8800 before.

EDIT: So with this I gain a few FPS and a slight reduction in stuttering, but I figure that's just because i've gone to medium textures, which don't look anywhere near as nice as high unfortunately.

Now i've disabled vsync and stuttering is almost gone. Game seems a lot smoother if only at 25-30fps average now. Only thing is, triggers on X360 pad were working properly after the patch, now they dont work properly again, either on or off, darn.

Still think there's something amiss with this game.
