Grand Theft Auto 4

Take a look here and be suprised;)

Oops!

You're forgiven anyway, it's not like the patch appears to make much difference.

It mainly fixes the issues introduced in patch 1, and adds the settings to the gfx menu that the pre-release viewers had in the first place. It also introduces a whole range of new bugs, including not being able to access the computers in the internet cafe and various crashes. Some people over at gtaforums have reported FPS increases though. Mixed bag. Again.

They'll have to fix the internet cafe issue, so perhaps they will work on another fix, who knows.

FWIW I just upgraded my nvidia drivers from 180.84 to 181.22 and got an extra 6fps or so in the benchmark:

Hasn't improved much framerate wise for me. Still dip below 20 in the built up areas with high buildings and bridges. Altering the shadow quality and render quality seems to have no effect at all on the framerate for me. My dual-core AMD is obviously the problem, but I'm not replacing it just for this game when everything else runs fine.

Good stuff, i'm already on the latest drivers though. I'm thinking perhaps i'd get better performance on XP as opposed to vista 64. I'd have to setup a dual boot though, not sure if I can be bothered just now.

i got slightly bored with the game a while back, and intend going back to it at some point but will give the new patch a dose of looking at, cheers!

Better performance and shadows nicer when u set to very high with no noticable slowdown.

Only trouble is 5-15 mins into the game the game just stops like to 1fps to .5fps and doesnt go away. Takes like 3 mins to press esc to get to gfx menu but changing stuff dont help at all. This patch sucks monkey nuts. Grrr......

Wow, just got this game and it plays brilliant on default graphical settings. Only thing I changed was the res to 1280x1024. I have had no stuttering so far. Not sure if I actually want to know what fps I get, maybe it's best I don't know.:p All I know is, it runs pretty smooth and much better than my PS3. I am very pleased. :)

New patch has made my game run smoother :D

Something I've never seen before! I stole the truck in the pic after dumping the orange bike, I shot the copper a few times drove off.. went back to kill him and he jumped on the bike and gave chase  :D

Haha, that's great. It's the little things like this that really redeem GTA from it's issues.

Just noticed you have a very good FPS, what's your setup? I'm going to guess at least quad....you on xp?

Its little things are great, like earlier I'd gone up three ladders on this oil platform at the oil ref place. The cops also climbed up :D

I use a 19" Viewsonic VX922 which is probably why I get good fps.

Setup..

-E8400 C2D @ 3996mhz
-IP35 Pro Mobo
-G.Skill PC8500 4GB
-Sapphire HD4870 512mb

Nice, that's a solid setup you have there. Might try pushing my C2D a little further.....

I'm going to see what performance I get in 1280 now.
