Spiders, Scorpions & a Frog Oh My

Yeah he's great to watch, always on the move. last night he emptied his food dish and piled it all up under a plant. Think he was hoping I wouldn't notice and fill the dish back up heh

What size tank does he have, im looking into an unusualy pet and think a crab would be great after seeing that one :D

I've got him in a spare tank I had which is a 60x45x60cm (LxWxH) exo terra terrarium, it's set up as half land and half water. Water is heated to 29C and filtered, the land area is heated with 2 large heatmats on the back of the tank.

A bog standard aquarium will do, just need to male sure it's got a very secure lid as these crabs are very strong and extremely fast.

:) cool

Does he take much to look after, what does he eat?

Its just the inital set up costs that are stopping me having a full house of exotic pets :D

Maintenance wise it's a case of cleaning up uneaten food, waste and a weekly water change. Seems they'll eat just about anything - fruit, veg and meaty foods (whitebait, blocks of frozen bloodworm etc). You can buy crab food (Hikari Crab Cuisine) though which I may try as it will contain everything they need to stay healthy like calcium. I've only had him a few days so I'm still learning.

The frog doesn't do much except sit in a hole all day so bear that in mind if you ever decide to look into keeping one.

Yep! and the ones with metal mesh have been reinforced as it's been known for them to chew through metal and escape.

What do you do if you go on a 2 week holiday or something?
Someone has to clean, feed care for all them daily.

We don't take holidays, they just seem like a waste of money to us plus my other half is pretty ill and it wouldn't be possible for her be away from her GP for too long.

Haha awesome.

Did not expect to see crab pics tbh. :D

Great thread! Thanks a lot for sharing :)

Really like the Guyana Pink Toe and have wanted one for four months now, am just afraid I wont be able to look after a spider for years :(
The Frog is awesome btw :D Got a name for her?

If you get time could you post some pics of your tree spiders in action please? I find arboreal species really interesting so would be much obliged :)

What kind of crab is that up there too? Don't think anyone specified?

The crab is a Rainbow (Cardisoma armatum) they can grow up to 6" across. I'll have a look through my photos, should have some more arboreal spider pics.

The Chameleon requires a basking area between 85F - 90F, the bottom of the enclosure should be closer to 70F. Also needs 12 hours of UVA/B light a day. Eats insects such as crickets, locusts, meal worms and wax worms dusted appropriately. Chameleons need access to non standing water, I'm using a 1 gallon drip system at the moment which lasts about 12hours before it needs refilling.

If you're interested then this is a good guide to keeping Yemens but it's also worth joining a dedicated Chameleon forum as well. http://raisingkittytheveiledchameleon.blogspot.com/ to save confusion Yemens are also called Veiled.
