AMD cuts Phenom II prices

Awesome, a price war!?!

Indeed, it has certainly been a while since both parties have been in a position to actually compete in a price war.

Ok AMD are still a bit behind Intel with regards to performance, but for value for money, AMD are nicking it i would say, going by current benchmarks/overclocks etc.

Savings permitting i could be on the lookout for a system upgrade over the summer, may depend on DDR3 pricing though

am out of the loop regarding cpus, i guess i need to do my homework.

so AMD are back in there with the bang for buck are they?

last time i looked the Q6600 was cleaning up anything AMD at just over the £100 mark.

Its surprisingly not far off the Q6600, but the higher quality mobos are easier to find. Certainly more reliable than the newer Q6600 chips.

Two key points.
1. We are stocking the Retail not OEM, which costs more.

Why on earth is ocuk selling retail only when a large number of their customers are overclockers and will have 3rd party heatsinks? They must be losing loads of business as everyone orders them elsewhere at oem prices. A bizarre business model for their target market I must say.

Would have to agree with the above statement.:(

Completely agreed, if i could save 15£ on that purchase i would be much more willing to shell out for a better cooler.

AMD stopped allowing resellers to sell OEM stock directly.

What possible advantage does that have for anyone? For AMD it means less demand for their chips. For the retailer, it means they can't stock cheaper chips. For the consumer, it means they're forced to pay for the retail processors at a premium.

Sometimes you see AMD's struggling, and it's times like this that really clarify the situation...

So let me get this straight. The much trumpeted quad core price drop HAS happened. It's just that we in the UK aren't seeing it because of the currency rate and OCUK aren't selling OEMs..?
