Do you carry/keep cash?

Well in my case I don't have online banking for any of my credit cards so I never know till the end of the month, with cash I notice straight away how much is spent

You now there's debit cards as well..

I don't see the difference. You know how much cash you have withdrawn, you know how much you have spent on a card, you have to remember both. I'm not seeing the difference..

I usually draw out £50 at a time for daily purchases at work (food/drink/papers) I don't keep any more cash on me, that's what the debit card is for.

If I have £200 cash on me and only use that to spend during the week , when I have only £10 of that left , I know I've spent £190. When using a card I wouldn't add up/try to remember each transaction I make , and therefore won't know how much I've spent during that week (unless I've bought something expensive) - I never use my debit card to buy anything , so will usually only find out at the end of the month

If that makes sense :p

I carry £20 cash at most. Everything goes on the debit card.

I have no credit cards or store cards.

I'm pretty shocked at the amount of people who seem to completely rely on cards. I couldn't do it myself, I just don't trust chip and pin nor any other method of using cards. You are relying on 2 other parties to get things right and if my last "big shop" is anything to go by then mistakes DO happen and I expect they happen quite often. My advice, if you do use your card for most transactions, is to watch your account online like a hawk.

I dont carry cash.

My wallet is a mans wallet and not a coin purse :P
Plus if i need cash, a cashpoint is fine, but more places seem to accept cards now so its not that bad. Coins I get go in my pocket, then into a box on my desk. :D

I wish everything was electronic though, would make life so much easier. I'll check my bank acc online every day so nothing odd goes on and if it does I know instantly.

pay by card and the items are insured (depending on bank/card etc) and are covered by fraud.

i just think it saves faffing about with money and having pockets full of coins.

so how do you withdraw cash. It doesn't happen often. Out of the 100's of millions of transactions every day, how many go wrong. Paranoid is the word..

Err how does that work out easier..

If you have £20 in cash and come home with nothing, you know you've spent £20. (or lost it:D)

Checking balances at the machine is never that fool proof with pending charges or DD payments due out on days you forget..

i mean as in where the money goes......

i can do tremendously sad things using pivot tables and my online banking downloads to prove that i spend too much in bars/clubs/restaurants.

I very rarely need to due to my job. Withdrawing and paying for goods are two entirely different things in my book though. I am paranoid, that much is true, but even a small number of the 100's of millions of transaction everyday could mean a hell of a lot to the people involved. People spend money like there is no tomorrow these days and I'm sorry but trusting shops and banks with your money seems foolish to me.

Pessimism consumes me;)

I tend to get £30 out in cash per week ... that then covers my travel for the week, (tram), and lunches/snacks at work as neither of these take cards.

Purchases like food shopping go on the debit card normally, (the bulk of which is done online anyway).
