Brazilian model, 20, dies from superbug infection

For sure - but Azagoth make a good point.

Thousands of people die "for no good reason at all", in fact many of them die not even as a result of technical or medical accidents and mistakes was was the case with the ferry and Bridi, but as the direct and anticipated consequence of decisions.

What value a human life? Why recognise one and not another? How does the media choose who to highlight? I think these are interesting questions about society.

Interesting questions about society? no its not interesting at all. Media works around stories involving people who have significantly different lives to the average joe. Someone who is in the spotlight for whatever reasons.

its just life.

And this superbug thing was an accident, it was accidently misdiagnosed.

Oh wait, is it because she is hot it is more of a shame?

So her death was avoidable- possibly. But then so were the ferry passengers' deaths. Accidents in both cases imo to be honest, and I agree with you- accidents happen. I still don't see how her death is any more tragic than the other 40 people, who also had their whole lives ahead of them.

are people on here retarded or something?

just accept that the news and the media is centred around people who are in the spotlight, or lead lives different to the average person.

If we got every single story about every single sad thing happening then newspapers would be like novels and the news at 10 would be on until 10 the next day

This is a forum, not a newspaper.

Thanks for clearing that up.

People convey what they read in the news onto this Forum. I dont understand why people still cant seem to grasp the fact that Celebrities/known people make stories more interesting.

The media is a money making business. Stories with people who are known sell more. Its not that hard to comprehend.

Her life is more valuable in a media than the average joe. Its a sad story, and the rambling about the 40 people dying is a sad story too. but why people are being arsey that its in the news is beyond me

edit : well by in the news I mean classed as "more important"

I understand what you're saying Hedge, and we all agree that celebrities etc... make better news stories, but that's it...

What is being argued here is whether to these people on the forums, us, the people who dirtydog chose to discuss this with think that her death is more 'tragic' or her life meant more than anyone else's.

He and some others seem to think that her death was somehow a worse blow to the world than others, more likely though on some level it resonates with some part of their personality or life bringing her death in closer proximity to them.

No its a terribly tragic story and people have been disrespectful about it, just because they feel its no more news worthy than any other person.

Rather than "OMG a person died!", something like "pretty tragic story, rip" would be more appropriate, regardless of whether some peoples likes appear more valuable than others, its still a sad story.
