Guy has his car stolen and has to pay £100 to get it back!!

Your example contained strong evidence? From the sounds of it it contained your eye witness account and not much more.

With all due respect, I was there you were not. I gave them the registration, told them where he lived and who he was. Is that not evidence enough?

I've a feeling you're arguing just for the sake of it though.

I agree that I was not there, and im sorry that it happened to you, however

I've got news for you, its not evidence enough. If it was, could I not go to the cop shop and say "my stereo is missing, I saw "Wicksta" take it, he lives *here* and the car he got into had *this* registration number", would you then expect to be arrested and prosecuted?

how about mine then?

Yours contains no where near enough detail for me to be able to comment.

Yes I would, then I would expect a court to decide if I was guilty or not, not a policeman.

If someone crashed into you and left the scene would you think "ahh well, not worth reporting that, nothing will get done as I'm the only witness."?

You seem to think that being the sole witness to a crime against you somehow means the perpetrator will automatically get away with it without even being taken to court. I've got news for you - this is wrong.

It's not, normally if your car is stolen and the thief is identified the fee is £115 recovery and £12 per day storage, so it's nice to see the gyppos are cheaper than the police when it comes to handling your stolen car for you.

And you can then claim any costs from the thief via civil court :)

I would report it, of course, and if I had the other persons number plate the police could check the car to see if it had corresponding damage and then they could prosecute them for fleeing the scene of an accident, I could also then claim from there insurance/sue them for damadges.

You see, in the situation you have described there could be added evidence making prosecution possible, that evidence being damage to the other car.

I don't think that having one sole witness who also happens to be the victim means that the perpetrator will "automatically" get away with it, however, without more evidence prosecution would be nigh on impossible, as frustrating as that must be for many people, therefore, the Police will not waste there time trying to prosecute for it.

FOR more than 20 years the Johnsons have been the godfathers of Cheltenham's criminal underworld. Their name has become synonymous with violence, dishonesty and intimidation.

Whether it was conning the vulnerable or raiding the wealthy, no target was too big or small if it meant earning a quick buck.

They've always claimed to be small-time crooks – a group of persecuted, misunderstood travellers – but there is a darker side to the roguish face they present to the world.

Those brave enough to stand up to them are forced into witness protection for their own safety. Those who don't dare are sworn to silence.

Police say crime has dropped significantly since seven members of the family members have been behind bars, jailed for a total of 69 years between them.

:eek:Probably best just to pop down to Clinton cards to pick up a pretty little envelope for that £100 lol.

Thats awful, id stab him for taking the car..

Of course you would:rolleyes:.

And if you're lucky you might get it back at a pound a week because they're on the dole and it's all they can afford.

Plus if they don't identify the thief you still get the same bill.

So then you push for interest (charged at bank rate) PLUs costs, meaning that £1 a week is not going to gover the interest most likely, so you have an unlimited income of £1 a week :P

I live in cheltenham and like most people round here I've heard of the Johnsons. They aren't just a random gypo family they are quite well known regionally. If you google them most of the results are news headlines, several of them from national papers. If it was normal gypos I'd probably pay it begrudgingly, if it was the Johnsons id leave them a tip.
