LOTRO Free Trial and anyone still play?

your trap skill will remain the same, you will also receive a Snare skill which imo isnt as useful but im sure is situational.

you can however buy / craft other sorts of traps. you can also get high lvl snares that can start fellow conjunctions i beleive.

a nice tactic with your hunter is to lay trap, open the fight with quick shot (if in strength stance) or barbed arrow. either of these shots appkly a slow to the mob. beat on it while it slowly runs at you, then let it get stuck in your trap and beat on it some more, most likely you will burn it down before it even hits you. :)

regarding hunter legendaries and i can only speak from my experiences i have found that rain of thorns gets few resists against on lvl mobs. most likely if you try to root 4 mobs you might get 1 break free, which is actually better as presumably you want to kill one anyway so u can just fight the one that resisted while its on its own.

for any of the new people trying the game if your on Snowborne and need advise i will do my upmost, im online most nights.

Lokiguesty, do you know if there are any "end game" Kins on Snowborne? I'm almost level 30 with my Hunter and want to do end game stuff. but I can't seem to work out who the big guns are on the server.

I guess you should wait a bit, you'll eventually find out who are the end game kin, but you still have 30 levels to go so I would not care too much about it now

well i think it will mostly depend on what u want from a kin.

United Kingdoms (my kin) does a lot of end game stuff but we are not a hardcore raiding kinship so we dont put constraints on when u have to be online etc.

however if you are looking for a more hardcore kin that does end game content everynight of the week i would personally point you in the direction of Nine Worlds who are a close ally of UK.

they are one of the biggest kins on the server and were second to down the Watcher on Snowborne. also i can say that all the members i have had dealings with are all very nice guys.

i think you can probably find more info on the individual kins on the lotro forums as their is generally a recruitment page full of kinship details.

a couple of other high profile names tho i dont know their members personally are "last bastion of hope" "element zero". unfortunatly the best named of them all "kitty has reached crittical mass" has long been disbanded hehe

hope this helps

providing everything hits (in strength stance) and the trap works they can be down to half health and less by the time they reach me. lower level can rarely get to me.
I can't answer regarding traps as I am only level 25.

Here's a tip regarding stances, when ranged start out using the precision stance (more accurate and more crits but lowers your defence) then switch over to strength when your target gets within melee range. Stance switches are instantaneous and I find that I do more ranged damage with precision as strength misses too often.

Don't forget that the stances affect what some of the ranged shots do too, as do the various oils. Strength stance for example gives quick shot a 40% snare, which makes it a great opener, but if you want to keep precision, using light oil will do the same thing.

Thanks for the tip. I've only played hunter to 25 and I did not know that you could use oils. Are they bought from vendors or auction?

You get to use fire oil at 25 I think, and light oil from 30. You can buy the short lasting versions of both from the trainer, or have a scholar craft you longer lasting variants.

It's a really cool addition, adding oil changes all your ranged attacks, gives them extra effects. Fire generally adds a damage over time, light gives an increased critical chance, although they generally have other effects as well depending on the ranged ability.

You also have bow chants, which I think are only craftable, which lower the ranged evade chance, block chance or increase armour penetration.

Actually it really helps if you or an alt is a scholar :)

Oh, and books for your class slot too, again scholar craftable. They either lower your power use or threat - Book of the Wind Rider or Book of the Whisper Draw.

oil sounds good, not too far from getting it now. also another question, what's the point in learning musical instruments for a non-minstrel?

Entertainment really. You can play your own songs in the game which can be quite a lot of fun :)

Me and the Mrs were on Snowbourn last night bimbling around outside Archet. The game is still just as beautiful as it was when I first started playing it, but now even moreso since my PC is far more capable of handling the graphics engine.

for 99% of the time its just so you can play music using various instruments.

however there is one lvl 60 instance (grand stair) where you need to have drum use to be able to make a boss fight easier, so i dont know if they are considering making the instrument use more of a part of the game.

TBH playing music is somthing u either find intersting or not, for me i lost interest withing a couple of weeks and its now somthing i dont bother with.

in saying that i can mentor any instrument with my minstrel so if u ever need to learn one im your man lol

Heya Loki

Is United Kingdoms a fairly laid-back Guild, and are you currently accepting new members? My fiancee and I might be looking for a Kin if we decide to stay on in the game after we're done with the trial but we'd be fairly casual players.

Thanks great info, I would have probably played to 60 without finding this stuff out. Time to go shopping.

Yeah, I only really discovered it cos I like the crafting side of the game - scholar crafting was a real eye opener - dyes, healing potions, hunter oils, books for various different classes, battle scrolls and scrolls that increase your crit chance in crafting, loads of interesting stuff.

Jeweller was a bit like that too, in addition to the obvious stuff you can do rune keeper stones, amulets that change the appearance of lore master pets, and radiance potions.

Hi

yes we are very much a laid back Kinship.

no set times constraints or invovlement, just play when u want and chat to who u want, if u decide u want to do end game instances and raids we do these two and you just register your interest and then get involved when we do them.

also i will point out, and hopefully this will be a plus point for you, we are generally a more mature kinship. most our members are mid 20's to mid 30's or even above because of this our members tend to understand that ReaL life (be it children or what ever) comes first.

we are recruiting tho we dont go mad about recruiting (you dont see us spamming OOC for members) we tend to recruit from word of mouth or people groupng with out members and wanting more info.

for further information on recruitment see
http://www.guildportal.com/Guild.aspx?GuildID=147668&TabID=2317295

which is the recruitment page of our website, have a look around and see what you think.

if your interested follow the joining instructins from that page, or if you have questions feel free to send me a mail or tell in game, i'll almost certainly be on my main Lokion or my Alt Lokio.

hope this helps a little

i'd be interested in joining too if possible, i'll check out the site.

Mostly seems to be the knock on effect of the Moria expansion, its only 10 levels but takes a surprisingly long time to do, I think more people are raiding for longer than they did before aswell. The lvl 50 raid content was incredibly long winded and after 2-3 runs I was bored out of my mind and hadn't gotten anything good gear wise, I really did it just to see it. This time around the raid content is more easily farmable and quickly and easier to get teams for so people are getting their armour and spending more time getting it, rather than giving up as before.

I've just rolled a new hunter, which seems fairly silly as I have a 60 hunter but its the most fun class to play through the game with IMHO. I'm leveling a few others a bit at a time aswell, theres plenty of people I'm running into on Snowborne. Bear in mind theres really very little content you need a team for in up to lvl 20-25, and people get a little bored of waiting for members, when its content that is mostly solo-able even if listed as group quests. Lone Lands has plenty of fellowship stuff but the majority of people seem to hate the lone lands so get in, quick through the solo stuff and smeg off. North downs is really where you should find no problems getting teams from then on for anything you want.

I think as more and more people learn where all the quests are though soloing stuff is becoming more common as waiting around for a team, to do easy quests is becoming a drag. I tend to mostly solo, build up a long list of group quests and when i've got loads to do look for a team, invariably other people have several big group quests to do and you can go through loads of them in one team and I think other people are doing the same.

But I've been in and out of kins, if you're in a kin thats fairly large you'll generally find it completely different, people logging in alts of similar levels to give you a hand with quests, people happy to give you a hand even if they don't need the quest.

Late reply! Cheers for the info. I ended switching to Snowbourn, I had a friend starting up at the same time and we accidentally picked different servers. I got so sick of not being able to trade and what not, and I was having such a good time that I've gone and subbed :)

I've got a Hunter at lvl19 atm, I go through the quests fairly slowly, mainly because I'm a bit of a wanderer, I can just go walkies for hours.

Looks like a lot of us are on Snowbourn, add me up (name is Clarendor) if you want a hand with any Quests or lvl19ish light/medium armor or whatever, trying to make it all as social as I possibly can :)
