3m-high tribute to Iraqi journalist who threw his shoes at Bush

Well, they removed Saddam, so mission accomplished in that sense.

Is the place any safer? Yes...Although violence and corruption still go about the place.

Groan! The post was questioning the reasons for invading Iraq. 9/11, or a dictatorship, obviously weren't in anyway used as the reason for doing this... Yet, here we have the suggestion it was the reason, or at least a valid reason?

Anyone who is already down this route of thinking has already clearly absorbed too much Fox News, and is beyond help!

So why did they invade Iraq then?

They removed Saddam.... Is the place safer? I suspect most would say no...

And let's see the state the country is in, in a couple of years...

Didnt they just have their first democratic elections not so long ago?

Theres plenty of advantages in the Iraq war, even though a war is still a war but hey, were mankind.

So why did they invade Iraq then?

Oil, disguised as democracy and 45 minute WMD launch capabilities.

One day I will take my future children and show them the golden shoe and explain what it meant and why its there.

The shoe will be a lasting symbol, a fitting monument to America and its ways for many generations to come :)

I'm not in favour of the statue. My problem with it is that it is celebrating mediocrity, he even had two shots and still missed, now if he'd managed to hit Bush then that would be something rather more worthy of celebration....

For goodness sake... if you're going to justify the invasion of a country to introduce democracy, there's a lot of countries that should come far higher up the list.

The issue at hand is people talking about Iraq and also:-
- 9/11
- WMDs
- dictatorships
- terrorism

None of which have anything to do with the invasion of that country... The amount of nonsense and lies spouted by politicians in connection with that invasion was beyond belief. And yet they got away with it...

Beggars belief!

Now let's get back onto the far more important subject of shoes!

It is a protest and a huge two fingers to GWB.

He is immensley unpopular both in the USA and abroad and that is their way of saying up yours even though he missed as Neo Bush reacted.

As for Obama .... he would have caught them and thrown them back with a stern warning.
