January Transfer Window Thread - rumours and signings here

I think it's things not going his way, both his fault and others. Missing 1-on-1s, getting wrong offsides called against him, not having evra in the team for quite a while

Ronaldo isnt playing THAT much on the left, so shouldnt effect him directly (apart from the general team aspect)

Still undoubtedly a great player, and two goals against WBA will have helped his confidence no end, but he isnt even close to what he was like last year and its not just down to the injury / operation

The team as a whole has a different dynamic, and to be honest Im glad we are less reliant on him now

Well I just think Ronaldo plays noticeably better when Evra is in the side (in fact I noticed the same with Fabio playing against Spurs) he really benefits from a wing back getting forward with him and overlapping.

Totally agree with the second part though.

should be banging 30 a season in for Barca, not carrying a team of average kids.

Clearly forgetting that it was this policy of Wenger's that got him his name in the first place. Can't say I had EVER heard of him before he came to Arsenal. Even then he was a very slow starter. Would be pretty disappointing of him to come out and say that. Especially since he's never played a full season.

He was pretty well known across Europe when he played for Feyenoord, he has always had exceptional talent but Wenger has made him the player he is, no doubt. In theory, if he was always fit, he deserves the top level of £80,00p/w, but what if he gets injured again for another 6 months? You can understand Wengers apprehension, but also why RvP thinks he's worth £80k. Ultimately, if he stays fit until the summer and Arsenal achieve CL football, I'd give him £80k straight away.

No he doesn't. He says we will know before the West Ham game. I guess that gives him a couple of days to sign someone else if it doesn't work out.

He just said no in a press conference apparently, but I never trust his word when it comes to transfers.

Hold on sonny Jim, what about JFW! He is our saviour.

To be fair, we have a single player whose really now showing the potential to be a premiership star. There are lots of good players in our reserves, but other than Wilshire I don't think theres a single player who looks good enough. We've a lot who are moving up to the age where they should be pushing for the first team but are found lacking in ability, have been out on loan at clubs and just haven't shown enough ability to be future prem stars.

Our youth setup is arguably getting worse, we have a quite silly number of youth players costing us a lot and we're not getting a whole lot of quality out of it. In the past years, Pennant, Bentley, Muamba, Larson and a few others have been good enough but we let them go and mostly for pathetic fee's considering their values now. Theres barely a player in the team who learnt his game at Arsenal these days, almost everyone was brought in rather than came through the youth team and we're again buying in quality because our youth squads are coming up WAY short.

In fact, when I think of the current squad almost all have been bought and mostly not exactly that long ago.

The thing is, again, Bigbeard and guys I can't understand how we are "preparing" for outside the top 4 by spending 15mil on a apparently world class player, it makes no sense. THe current squad can finish outside the top 4, why would we spend 15million just to stay outside the top 4?

The problem I see is that Wenger thinks Song will come good, and he won't. He thinks Diaby and Denilson are good enough, and they aren't close. He could spend that 15mil on a DM and probably get back into the top 4, but he isn't.

It yet again screams to me that he doesn't want a replacement DM as he thinks we have good enough players, he's just lost his way. He thinks Arshavin will somehow improve us despite almost everyone out of defence capable of playing central midfield in the attacking role. He's not blessed with massive pace so can't see him as a winger long term and we will eventually have better options. Strike wise he flat out refuses to drop Adebayor no matter how useless he is and RVP is out best striker by miles and better than Arshavin. He's not replacing Fabregas, unless Wenger's planning to accept a 30-40million bid for Fabregas in the summer, and thats what scares the living crap out of me.

I thought you were always complaining that Arsene relies too much on the young players and doesn't buy players in? Now here you are saying that you're buying in quality because the youth squad is coming up short?

Make your mind up. Don't even know why I spend 10mins reading each individual post from you sometimes.

It really gets to me how Arsenal fans can say Wenger has lost his way, especially after all that he has done for the club. Without him you would fall away back into mediocrity which is where you were when he took over.

I'm more worried about our complete lack of creativity at the moment than finding a DM, Song is doing an OK job whereas we need a CM and RM who can come in and do a job now.

Gibbs
Emmanuel-Thomas
Coquelin
Afobe
Bartley
Botelho
Nordtveit

To name a few. Heck Nordtveit is suppose to be one of the best young defenders in Europe.

You realise we had big sell on clauses in their contracts. Most Arsenal youngster do when they leave. If reports are to be believed we got £7m for Bentley. He's hardly set the World on fire at a big club.

I just don't get your hatrid of Big Ade, yet Love of Eboue. I'd rather a blind, legless (and I don't mean drunk) Ade play over Eboue. He offers zero to the team.

I'll await the comments about how Eboue runs the team, everyone loves him, and how he has the most attacking threat since Bin Laden.
