I do wish you'd have used the japanese name (eve no jikan) as I looked at it and was like I'm sure I've seen something like this but it wasn't called that. After a quick google check for the real name  - I watched the first one or 2 episodes, didn't think it was too bad but stopped watching it as I think the others weren't out at the time.

Crunchyroll is quite a useful site in some cases, found blassreiter (not a bad overall story) and kurogane no linebarrels (linebarrels of iron) which I'm hoping is going to get better as I like the mech designs (they're slightly fresher than gundam designs for example). Just don't watch Kotetsushin Jeeg as that is pretty bad :)

I've been enjoying an older anime, shingu, which is actually pretty good and has a plot that I personally haven't really seen explored too much in the anime I've seen - big strong power (linked to humans), aliens invading while another group of aliens help the one town on earth that knows of aliens save earth, also coming of age aspect too. :)

As to the earlier mentioned anime for winter - I think rideback may be one of them surprise anime gems that don't look like much but turns out to be really good. Asu no Yoichi and akikan are both as daft (but I like them like this) as I thought they would be too and kurokami seems kind of shana meets Shikabane Hime Aka (or karas) :)

I used the english name for the series as that's what it is listed under on both CrunchyRoll and the official url. There's only three episodes out now with a fourth out in April.

Shingu ... haven't seen it but I have a copy and it's in my backlog (somewhere) :)

I saw the first episodes of Asu no Yoichi and Akikan, I thought that the first of these was funny and silly and a good laugh .... the latter I didn't think much of for some reason (just didn't click)

Had **** The Natural Pt. 1 come this morning. Usual nice Nozomi release with the thirteen episodes which make up the first half of the series spread across four thinpak'ed disks. A surprise was that the main extras are included on a seperate disk and a nice little booklet is included as well.

If only the Funimation half season sets were produced this well ....

edit: Ok, it seams that the forums filters unfortunately pick up the series' name as being a competitor :) ... so you'll have to look for a series which is just a four letter name beginning with A, a second series of that subtitled The Natural and a third series of that subtitled The Origination :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/****_(manga)

Yeah, I read that earlier ... i'll watch the episode later this evening though. I knew it was going to happen as I have seen the movie adaptation but it'll be hard to watch this part of the story arc. Having seen the movie also means that I have some idea on whats to come, (I have the R2(J) LE release of the movie).

Not a good day today with Lucky Star Vol 6 LE being delayed indefinitely along with Ah! My Buddha vol 1. :(

I used to be into Anime when I was at Uni but I've completely lost track over the last 6 years. What I used to watch are all the usual suspects I suspect:

Akira
Princess Mononoke
Patlabor 1 & 2
Ninja Scrolls
Perfect Blue
Ghost in the Shell
Neon Genesis Evangelion

I realise this is probably a rather broad question but i'll ask it anyway; Any suggestions for someone getting back into Anime?

What do people think of Ghost in the Shell 2.0? Its the original 1995 movie but with all the green CGI replaced with the latest 3D CGI graphics. The sound effects are also redone.

Saw it the other night ....must say i prefer the original because the green CGI fitted the movie perfect, it wasnt silly over the top GUI/gimmicky effects (aka Stand Alone Complex). Even the audio has less of an impact, eg the tank gatling guns have very slow rate of fire with little noise when hitting targets.

The helicoptors and skyline do look nice but it remind of the Star Wars movies, dont think ive ever seen the 3 movies in there original form, Lucas has messed about with them too much.

Covered several times in the last few pages (and higher up on this page - mines showing page 58 of 58) but I'll stick with my normal recommendations and yes very common stuff :)
Eureka Seven - mecha with quality story arch
Zoids Genesis - animal mecha with a good story arch
Rozen Maidens - living dolls, very very good series if a little different

plus based on your mentioned list
Gundam 00 - its the latest mecha from the huge brand really :)
Rahxephon - similar but different to evangelion
Appleseed (the 2004 onwards versions) - just watch it its that good
Samurai 7 - reimaging and retelling of the film seven samurai - actually turns out pretty good.
Full Metal Panic (some will also say full metal alchemist - different story) - mecha, school life, millitary mix with good comedy elements
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - mecha, once past the first few pretty good series
Overman King Gainer - same as above really

Might also like the slightly darker tones of ergo proxy and bubblegum crisis tokyo 2040

edit: and we really need to get a spoiler button, blue shows up quite well on the black theme.

Just started watching air gear - seems a bit like beyblade (hey don't knock it it isn't actually a bad idea for the younger audience) but with motorised roller blades/skates mixed in with an attempt to capture a a bit of the 'style' of eureka seven :)
Also found out a bit about the 'movie' version of eureka seven and I have this feeling that the revised concept just isn't going to work as well as the original - I'll still end up watching it though.

I commented on this about half a page up. I have the Japanese Blu-ray release and other than the 3D rendering of the openig sequence I was quite happy with the new elements. It's my understanding that the green was changed so those elements fitted better with what was used in the later films/series

... snip (yes agree) ...

Yes, when there was a thread in GD about the black theme I commented about it's affect on being able to include spoilers but as usual it was ignored. It is something that could be used a lot in the Music, Box Office & Books forum and is really needed.

Not sure if I have Air Gear .... don't think so. I think they should leave Eureka Seven alone ... it's fine as it is :)

Werewolf: looks like they've screwed up sending out the AoDVD competition prizes, see the appropriate thread on there ...

edit: It woul appear that theres a boxset of Kanon coming out on 28/04 ... wanders off to buy shares in Kleenex ...

edit2: for those with their minds in the gutter the above comment was regarding the fact that on the happiness scale Kanon blows She The Ultimate Weapon completely out of the water at times and even gives Grave of the Fireflies a run for its money (for me at least)

finished watching air gear. Felt it wasn't really finished when the series stops at 25 (we might get some more but its doubtful). There was atleast one character that could really have been built upon (akito/agito - split personality) as I thought the character was cooler than the main one -one side lovey dovey, the other psycho, side of eye patch denotes personality (allelulah in gundam 00 anyone) and wearing an orange straight jacket.
It didn't have the flow like eureka seven or even beyblade for that matter and I'd say it was a tad rushed but it entertained me enough to finish the series which seems to be getting more difficult for me now as I'm getting more picky about what I'm watching :)
The animation was pretty good but the censorship (a crow!) was annoying.

Finally finished watching Shana on DVD yesterday ... nice series with plenty of action with pretty good animation.

Working my way through ____ - The Natural Pt1 next :)

Thanks for the heads up about the delays with the AOD prizes :)

And it looks like April's going to be an expensie month for me - Air and Kanon sets - i just hope the exchange rate doesn't go any further down the pan (it's about 1.4 at the moment).

Just finished Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's .... very good fun series. I think I preferred it to the first series.

Next up is Welcome to the NHK as my vol 6 has just arrived.

I agree that nanoha a was better than nanoha, the knights just made it that bit more interesting, I still feel that strikers is just a bit better though (and I don't feel quite so dirty watching it :))

long ass time since I've been in here :p

*waves* ello again

Way behind on pretty much all the series I wass keepin up with, just not had the time.
Watched Voices of a Distant star again last night... goddamn amazin film, so much yet so short. Anyone know if shinkai has anything else up his sleeve?

Also whilst Im here, the Naruto DVDs, whats the score with them?
uncut/Unleashed R2s the way to go?
They're a gift and not sure which are the better ones at the moment, I can see S1/S2 available for £12inc but what episodes does this cover?

Are there any other large boxsets for Naruto?
Also silly question but what episode is it upto now?

*goes back to not working on dissertation and finding things to occupy him*

Ello DW :)

IIRC Shinkai's working on a few things, although i've not even seen 5cm per second yet (must watch it sometime).

I've just had my Gotanime sub almost pay for itself (the day after renewal), just pre-ordered the Kanaon, Air and Air movie DVD's from rightstuf - although the exchange rate is really nasty at the moment :(
Hopefully the pound will recover a bit before April.

I found 5cm/s to be a bit meh to be honest, sure it looks really really good but it seemed to be really lacking in a plot (and not in a good way). It also seems to be in a license black hole at the moment on R1 after the ADV issues last year. There were rumours that Bandai had picked up which they have subsequently denied. Be nice if it eventually, along with Place Promised, got a blu-ray release.

Kanon - very good, Air - good .... Air movie .... again meh, I found it, like the Clannad movie to not be very good compared with the series. My feeling towards them is really the same as my feeling towards The Individual Eleven and Laughing Man "films" of the GitS SAC series ... i.e. not as good and the originals are a lot better.

Working through Welcome to theNHK still downstair (wow that strange in places) and decided to rewatch Ai Yori Aoshi upstairs (mainly because I like Miyabi :p)

Working from home today so marathoned through Welcome to the NHK ... wow that's an old series with amateur psychotherapy, attempted mass suicide, hikikomoris, porno games and lots general weirdness.

It's an odd series and I am not really that sure what to make of it. Would I recommend it ... well not if you want something normal on an impulse but if you want some thing a bit different then give it a look.

Couple of interesting thing out of the New York Convention this weekend:

- Sola, Anime Legends release looks like July (at last!)
- True Tears, Anime Legends release looks like July (at last!)
- Yotsuba&! ... Yen Press are going to be releasing it, vol 6 due ~September (at last!) and they are looking into rereleasing the back catalogue
- Hayate, may be a sub only release.

(to get rough transcripts google for bayoab)

just finished watching Mai Hime, wasn't too bad, could have had a slightly better ending though, seemed a bit rushed maybe and also kind of contradicting in some ways too.
Anyone seen Mai Otome, it looks like the same plot but different environment to above, I know its the same 'characters' but it is different enough for me to watch although I'm pretty set on watching Xam'd (the spiritual successor to Eureka Seven in many peoples views) next I think.
