Grand Theft Auto 4

The shadows are the shadows I think....If you look back 'x' amount of pages for MRK's shots, the game looks good there, and he also as posted what settings he has.

Some of the shots look nicer as well because of the pictures being re-sized.

well finally got it working under windows 7, it was a problem with live which btw was also preventing me from getting fallout 3 working as well.

A known issue with msi installers as well but once i found the fix after a lot of hard googling it went flawless and now i can enjoy some gaming on 7 :)

I'll be keeping it as mine runs fine too. Plus they've finally fixed the analogue buttons for my wireless pad.

Same here, though it seems that 50% of the time the analogue triggers revert to being digital, it's quite irritating.

Should we expect yet another patch then?

Also, to the person asking about shadows, with the latest patch and them set to very high they look pretty good, little evidence of dithering unless they're thin shadows.

Yes, exactly, it was the second patch that made them look a lot better, it gives the option on the graphics menu to put them onto very high as well as a few other things. They seem better overall without tweaking though, unless you go below medium, where they flicker and can be really distracting.

Gigabyte 965P-DS3. Got a thread here about the problem.

TBH I think its just time for a new computer.

Latest custompc mag says that gigabyte boards have a in built fail safe that stops OCing after so many hard resets. They have also put a way of fixing the problem.

Says to shutdown your pc and reset CMOS jumper. Then when you startup go into the bios and set everything to standard settings. Load windows and leave it running for a few minutes, then shut down the usual way. Showing the bios that the pc is running ok should hopefully reset the failsafe. Says you may find it reppears later on if you are OCing. Hope this might help, I'm running the same mobo but never experienced this problem. Well it has reset my OC's once or twice though.

Had this problem with my DS3 too, sorted it by slackening the memory timings, haven't reset the BIOS yet though, should have the same effect.

God knows, you said xlive.dll couldnt be found, so I was saying in that sense, as my XP install did the same thing.

Btw, if you goto the Rockstar site and click the download link for the '1.0.2.0' patch, it is infact the 1.0.1.0 patch.

Im not keen on the external views, none of them seem to stay behind the car (unless you use the mouse), making driving really difficult.

Yeah the big problem I have with the default external view is that it isn't responsive enough, if you change drirection (e.g. pull a handbrake turn) it takes a while for it to pan back round to the direction of travel, much slower than in GTA:SA. So you really need to be on the money with your mousing.

Heh, my mouse battery soon goes down after a good game of GTA :p

Also any of you guys that have completed the main mission - can you be bothered trying to get 100%.

I just looked at what I have to do now and seems a lot of effort.:o Don't know whether I can be bothered.

Nope. I'm on 63.25% completion and don't think I'll bother mopping up much of the other stuff, most of it doesn't really interest me. I mean like there's 200 pigeons I've gotta shoot, I think I managed 3 or 4 so far - as if I'm gonna bother hunting down the other 196!

Dating, going out for drinks/meals/bla bla is all much of a muchness. The stunt jumps, yeah, if I come across a conveniently positioned ramp then I'll give it a go, but otherwise....

I did all the assassination missions before completing the main story because I was using it as a way of getting free armour/ammo.

Looking at a checklist, there is some stuff I wouldn't mind doing I suppose. I did a few of the Brucie races with an Infernus, and to be honest anything with a proper 'mission' I wouldn't mind having a stab at.

But in general with these games I never go for 100%, for me the journey is just as important as the destination (i.e. I'm not going to grind away at something for a few hours just to boost my stats, I need to enjoy the actual task).

Why does everyone have difficulty with this?

Left hand on WASD & Space, right hand on mouse.

Left hand drives/operates handbrake and can cycle weapons with Q and can control the lights/horn/enter & exit vehicle.

Right hand stays on mouse - control the camera angle at all times, Mouse 2 brings up the reticule, mouse 1 makes things die.

Really not desperately difficult is it?
