I gave up resisting, then tried resisting and by then it was too late

I am resisting using reason and the reason I'm resisting is because I'm reasonably broke therefore its a good reason to resist since reason always wins in the end, unless there's another reason.:D

Wasn't gonna buy one for my 20" widescreen seeing as I'm a student, ordered thursday, sent email friday afternoon asking to cancel and I get a reply this morning....45 mins after I have the confirmation email that the order is being shipped!

Can call on monday about cancelling it (seeing as I have asked for it to arrive tuesday) but dunno now, just really wanna sell my 4850 so I have some money.

Shouldn't complain though, get paid £300 on friday for xmas work

so looks like 4 mth max for 40nm - Think I can wait that long
The 4870 PCS has served me well enough so far (I just need to restart Oblivion every so often when the Vram runs out) and I'm loath to switch GPUs again within 6 mth (had already swapped from a 8800GT to the HD4870 when the 4870 came out due to how rubbish nvidia drivers were for Oblivion

How long this offer going to be here for, i want to order my new build but waiting till 6th Feb till i get 1 year 100+ posts for free shipping :). Unless OcUk could allowe me to have it just a few days early :) :)

There coming in April/may/June

Entry level and midrange only are planned for Q2. There's no solid information on how much better those will be than this card, though they should give better price/performance at least, and there's no solid information on when the high-end models will be on sale. Nor is there any solid information on what is meant by "mid-range" and "high end" in this context, or indeed on anything much apart from the fact that the new chips are 40nm and the first silicon has already been made.

I accept that in about 3 months time there will probably be a couple of graphics cards models probably quite a bit better than a 4870 1GB for probably about £200-230 (i.e. what I'd expect for the top midrange parts in a new generation of graphics cards).

If I had something fairly close to this card now, then I'd wait at least until some more definite information existed. But I don't, so I didn't.

Besides, the new toys pixie was whispering in my ear :)

Close of business Tuesday (same every week with the "this week only" offers, unless stated otherwise), but OcUK people said yesterday that sales of this card are so high that they're not sure if the stock they ordered (which they thought would be enough for 6 months) will last the week. So waiting until Tuesday might not be a good idea.

Its almost february and although this card is cheap If you arent desperate for a new card it may be worth waiting till march.

It's not official or confirmed by ATI but they may be releasing their new 40nm chips in the form of 4900 series in March.. When/If they do the prices may dip further on all 4870's or you may be able to pick something up which performs better.

Bellow link is from Custom Pc, the only worth while Pc mag I know of for Enthusiasts.
