Hare coursing?....
I have no problem with killing animals for food (hunting and shoots) but I do have a problem with killing things for mindless fun and "pest" control. Where was that, it looked like a bit of wasteland and as such I can't see how the rats are causing trouble and so they aren't vermin in my eyes. If on the other hand they are next to a farm and causing trouble with crops then a shotgun would be fine.
in cornwall my cat keeps killing those little shrew things and bringing them back also a Rabbit but that survived so we nursed it back and released it im not into killing things that dont have much chance of fighting back that would feel a bit empty to me , maybe a fox that had torn all my chickens to bits , didnt rats get blamed for the bubonic plauge when it was da fleas (or did i dream this)

)The hunting ban should have been a lot better than it is, it's watered down version to try and please everyone.

But once again, you fail to see that there IS a point to it. A very big one. But if you want to push for an answer, then it'll be a 'yes'.
wasn't it the European black rats with the flees, then the British brown rats killed em off, and the fleas (or the virus i forget) couldn't live in/on the brown rats blood? so the plague died down a bit (remembering from primary school here)

wheras obviously it should have been a full on ban solution just to please the soap dodgers![]()

As stated several times now, that "waste ground" is the far end of a shoot (i.e. land set aside for rearing game birds). The long grass-like stuff you see is maize and sweetcorn, which the rats infest. They destroy it, eat it all, and spread disease and destruction amongst the pheasant poults.
Hare coursing is now against the law in the UK, so I don't do it here obviously. I was talking about rabbits. Either way they get eaten by me, the dogs and the ferrets. Without "pest" control where would humankind be? Do you really fancy another dose of the black death? Leptospirosis?
Lovely. Couldn't care less about the sport as they're vermin but how the hell is that picture of a rat being torn in half anywhere near "family friendly" I suspect the only reason the thread isn't going anywhere as those "higher" up obviously favour this "sport"

Reasons I do it...
1. It's good exercise for the dogs and it is primarily what they were bred for. It's also good training for them.
removed....
3. It's a good day out for us. Certainly beats browsing the internet.
4. It's awesome fun!
