Grand Theft Auto 4

Why does everyone have difficulty with this?

Left hand on WASD & Space, right hand on mouse.

Left hand drives/operates handbrake and can cycle weapons with Q and can control the lights/horn/enter & exit vehicle.

Right hand stays on mouse - control the camera angle at all times, Mouse 2 brings up the reticule, mouse 1 makes things die.

Really not desperately difficult is it?

Agreed.

Does definition make a difference to FPS?

Likewise vechicle density and shadows?

Looking to try and increase my FPS as much as possible.

Got a GTX280 but only with a DualCore Intel Core 2 at 2.4GHz.

Any tips?

I've always played GTA games with a pad for driving then switched to keyboard on foot, fiddly but thats what im used to. Hate using keyboard for driving games and cars in this game just dont handle very well making correcting an error a nightmare.

No, its not difficult, just not very easy or as pleasurable as using a joypad

What joypads are people using for this game? - Not to keen on the Xbox controller personally, like the Playstation one and really really hate those thumb stick things :/

I've spent ages trying to figure out what makes the fps go up and down - changing the options from Medium to Highest or Very High makes no change at all to the fps, so im a little confused as to what they're actually doing

Sometimes Definition Off helps, sometimes it doesn't :/

Shadows deffinately does. At 0 its like the consoles, anything above and it starts creating shadows based on the light points. So it can get real bad at night when the street lights and headlights are all on :). Looks great though !.

I find controlling this with the keys easier than an analogue pad. a simple tap on the keys edges the steering really accurate so i can weave through traffic with no problem.

the mouse makes it 10x better for aiming and camera movement too.

I bloody love this game. I bought it for 15 quid a few weeks back and its my best buy in a long time. And my pc can still run it okay too :)

I have no idea what definition does.
Shadow density is best left at 0, it impacts performance quite a bit.
Vehicle Density impacts performance a lot for me. Esp. if you have such a poor cpu it's best left at 5 ish...
Render Quality is just AF so you can leave it maxed always it won't make too much of a diffrence.

And about the controls: How anyone can use analogs for camera control without pulling his hair out is beyond me :p. Aiming a gun from your car is even worse with an analog, oh well it's just what you're used to...

A very minor thing in this game. Besides if your correcting your steering going around a corner then you probably were driving too fast in the first place :p

Never said anything about correcting my steering?! Just feels so much nicer then a k/board. Plus you have vibration and you can use the second stick to move the camera around like you do with a mouse.

If uyou don't know what definition does, go into a game, and click the button, it shows you on the right what it does.

As above, basically the same as P....but i guess its permanent.

had a first taste of multiplayer tonight with neildo and was a great laugh.

We just played free mode creating mayhem and disaster wherever we went, didnt notice any lag and using voice comms in steam was an added bonus.

Lookin forward to some more mp shenanigans during the week if any1 is interested :)

The multiplayer on this game really shines IMO. Being chased around the airport in an Aston Martin by a helicopter whilst shooting out the window with an UZI is just brilliant.

Walk out of you mates dump of an apartment, walk towards to the hotdog stand on the other side of the road and look at the buildings in front of you.

Now go into graphics options and click the Definition setting on and off and it will become quite obvious what it does ;)

It's not about it being difficult, just mildly annoying. I'd prefer a snappier camera so that I don't need to correct my view with the mouse so much. I'm capable of doing it, it's just that I'm used to how it behaves in previous incarnations and given that the view does auto-correct based on your direction of travel, it's a shame that you can't control how 'springy' it is.
