Facebook culture

I've just met a really lovely girl on there. She's very hot and has sent me some suggestive photos via msn, but when we get to Uni in october I think we'll be good friends.

Nothing wrong with facebook imo.

Blatently going to be a gay trucker who will kidnap and then rape you.

Being on my year abroad, Facebook has really come into its own for me this year. Great to catch up on stuff happening at come as well as to arrange things with people I might not know all that well yet!

talk to someone via the phone or IM, where you can debate over a few things and it will take 10 minutes, instead of 2 days.

Both the phone and IM have the problem that both people have to be available at the same time. For me, FB isn't a replacement for the phone or MSN - it's a replacement for texting, which drives me nuts. Most of the things I used to send in a text now go via Facebook, since it's free and I don't have an inane 160 character limit.

I bet most of the people who don't see the point in it just don't have a social circle which uses it very much. At my uni, virtually everyone has Facebook and it's used for arranging lots of social occasions. You could live without it but you might fight yourself out of the loop a bit.

The concept of Facebook is good, I de-activated my account a while back now though as it just started to annoy me. I dislike the 'falseness' of it, and the 'hey everyone look at me' of it.

I phone or text my real friends, and there's zero chance of me ever needing to organise a holiday for 50.

Speaks the truth!

I only registered a few weeks ago because one of the lads at work suggested it.
Mrs is on there too, its cheaper to talk to the folks abroad is my excuse.

*snip*

Quite true here. We normally use facebook for going to the chinese, as tables need to be booked. #CS meet for the course people to get together face to face. and organising the Society events.

I hate annoying 18 year old girls that fly cameras in my face all the time that im out.

I hate boys who do it even more, but it seems to be a lot less common.

Facebook and other social network sites are good for showing pics of interesting things to friends/family, much easier to put them up, then email everyone.

When i went to brazil for 3 months...had loads of people asking for pics bla bla...much easier to just upload and everyone can see!

Only people with no friends would seriously get annoyed by Facebook :p

If you don't like it, don't use it, simple. No need to complain about it.

Spooky - I was just going to start a similar thread.

I'm fairly new to Facebook really, I dabbled a while back but now I do use it quite often and it really does have its uses.
I always try to contact people by email but now I find writing wall to wall gets a quicker reply.
There are a lot of good features but the thing that upsets me is the constant requests to join some stupid group or other.
Francesco has invited you to join Disney Characters.
Alison has requested you be kidnapped and so on and so on.
Is there anyway to turn this feature off?
Please.

BTW, it isn't just 16 to 25s in this culture, all my 'friends' start at about 35 up to near death.

I dont. Clubs and parties tend to not only be for me and my immediate group of friends though :p

Well i say! One is attending the wrong sorts of Clubs and parties!

:D

Yeah that's the only thing that annoys me about facebook, group invitations and applications.
