Cheaper to buy a PS3 in the long run?

Personally, i think all of that is up for debate.

I don't think it is sadly. The Xbox360 does have a much longer list of top exclusives as well as the better performing and looking versions of multi-format games. Then when it comes down to personal preferences you could say the Xbox360 has a better controller (The Six-Axis/DS3 is so out of date and not fit for purpose in comparison for me) and Xbox Live and the features it offers far surpass that of PSN.

The PS3 is strong due to its Blu-Ray support, sleek look, smooth performance and hopefully soon, a consistent run of good exclusives.

If I was picking a media box I'd go for PS3, I use it all the time for playing .avi files, DVD's and Blu-Rays, but if I wanted a games machine it would be Xbox360 every second of every day of every week. I still feel like the whole PS3 experience is seperated into sections where as the Xbox360 offers a brilliant all-round package.

On a side note, it was interesting to see that last year Xbox was the 5th biggest social brand going with Playstation in 15th. Obviously iPhone was number one.

Ahhh nooooo...must...resist...replying to Nokkon!!!

I cant...no offense but you entire post is BS. Most of it is entirely subjective! 360 has a better control pad? Says who? Its completely opinion based, I much prefer the DS3. Not everyone is the same, IMHO PS3 has much better exclusives!! The 360s top titles are on PC. For back catalogue the 360 wins hands down, it has a lot more games, but Id say PS3 has just as many titles that are actually decent!

Its best just to look at what features and games suite you the most and in this case its obviously PS3 for you and 360 for your mate!

Haha all you PS3ers arent as 'cool' as all those Xboxers - its a fact! Loooosers :p...

:D

Elfmeister. in your particular case (since no doubt all the other issues have already been explored :p) it just sounds like you were hoping that your mate would get a PS3 like you so you could game together. Considering he had a X360 previously and no doubt has some games he seems to value those higher than he values your 'gaming relationship' ;). Proceed with the X360 voodoo doll...

Can't agree with this at all - the 360 is a great gaming machine, but for me the PS3 is by far the better all-round package.

Its best just to look at what features and games you want then decide from there. In a lot of cases its not always 360 as some people like to make out.

The PS3 has much better exclusives?
In what? A poor FPS game (Resistance) followed by a sequel. A dirt racing game which isn't really a great racing game. The top racing game is a tech demo. It has a solid platformer in Uncharted. A good game in MGS4 which is far too much FMV to gameplay. Where are these better exclusives?

The top titles for Xbox360 aren't on PC either. That's subjective.

As for the complaints on joypad... how many complaints are there about the Xbox360 pad? Now how many are there for the PS3 pad? Exactly.

The fact remains I'm on 3 of each console, both purchased on their respective launch days and both are used consistently. I remain in a better position to comment then someone who is a nailed on the wall Sony fanatic (this isn't a slight on you, it's your choice). But you're never going to give a fair argument either.

I said PS3 in terms of media, but in terms of gaming (which was the subject I was on about) the Xbox360 offers more as an all-round package (for gaming).

While the 360 offers a better online experience, how does it offer more in the single player games? Or do you mean as the online is better it improves the gaming experience overall?

Not having a go, i just can't think of any way that the 360 outdoes the PS3 in terms of single player and am honestly interested in your opinion. However it's worth noting i own a decent PC so i don't view the library of 360 games that are truly exclusive to the platform as actually that large, thus kinda nullifying that advantage for me.

In all honesty, when it comes to gaming I just don't see that big a difference between the two machines. Mostly, the games & gfx are identical, and I don't see this apparent big difference with the online functionality/services between the two (having used both).

why does everyone always use the blue-ray & wireless argument for buying a PS3

I wouldn't say that everyone uses this arguement, many often cite the fact that the 360 hardware was/is unreliable too. It's certainly one of the reasons why I chose to get the PS3 in addition to my 360.

Personally i will only buy a blue-ray player if it becomes the only format available, and DVD is no longer around... but by then there may be another format doing the rounds

You can't deny it though, having Blu Ray and wifi built in, does negate the need to have to then by costly add-ons (work-arounds not included here), and regardless of whether to have a need for BR, as a storage media for games it's bound to come in handy for the future - I wouldn't be surprised, if the 360's HD drive hadn't died out, that we would have seen games on that in the coming years.

As for BR, well, I still don't see a hugh difference over modern DVDs, whether this is due to my current screen size (28"), I don't know, so at the moment I'm only really seeing it as a bit of future-proofing for when games get too much for DVDs - which may or may not happen, who knows!

My Xbox is cabled to my router, so no need for wireless.

You have no need for wireless, but that's not to say others don't, for me personally, I had to spend an extra £70 (at the time) to get wireless for my 360, as I didn't want cabling trailing around, and due to the distance from console to router. With my PS3, all I did was turn it on and enter my wifi details - sorted.

Yes the PS3 can do more, but at the end of the day i bought my Xbox360 to be a games console.. nothing more, nothing less... and this is what it does

Not a whole lot more than 360, unless you have stuck Linux on it I suppose, but people buy for different reasons, evidently you have purchased yours for games, but some people are interested in the other features both offer - so whichever you choose, be happy, or if you can, get both :)

Scort.

Wish we had a sticky where all the buying decision answers were held (the majority of which are formulaic) - be better than all these threads and potential bickering...

If they werent used then the poster would be temp suspended to counter the 'People dont read stickys' argument...

Best way of choosing a console that will be mainly used for games is to go to somewhere like metacritic and look at the top 30-50 games. Figure out which ones on each console you'd play more and buy the console.

I preferred more on the PS3 therefore I bought one, primarily for games! My brother has a 360 and I've seen about 2 games I'd actually want to play on it.

EDIT: To the above: Valkyria Chronicles = Excellent on PS3. Xbox has more I suppose.

Valkyria Chronicles looks excellent; my mate's got it so I'll get to play it at some point soon. It is a Strategy RPG though.

The 360 has over 10 rpg console exclusives with another 6 or so due this year.

I suppose ;) ..
