Windows 7 final editions announced

At least Home Professional has RDP support so I won't have to buy Ultimate this time round...

well if you are that will be for a reason, the issue is these low powered web books or notebooks need to be shifted of xp. and can't run vista or windows 7 so some lite version needs to there, and i guess that where 'starter' will come in

When Windows 7, to me, looks like a stripped down Vista, and supposedly that's the appeal of it; it then doesn't make sense to add even more rubbish as you pay more; I reckon they should've just made one, maybe two versions and left it at that.

The enterprise edition will be for business purchases only (and probably pirates due to the volume activation)

Not quite as easy with Vista Enterprise as it was with XP Pro VLK is it? MAK key version still phones home. Realise there are cracked versions out there, but for the pool of 6000 MAK activations I've got at work, I know where each and every one is and there are no strays.

Back on topic, I think Windows 7 Professional will do the job for me!

I brought vista ultimate 64bit last time but i will get Windows 7 Home Premium next time. I hope they bring down the price as i paid a fortune for vista ultimate.

What they should do is just do one edition and charge a flat £50 for it. They'd wipe the floor and put mac out of business

I doubt that's the profit / revenue maximising price point. It might be the market share maximising point but I suppose that's not what gets the shareholders excited.

From Paul Thurrott's bit on this, it seems the home user will most often only have the choice between Home Premium and Professional - so it's basically back to the days of XP in terms of choice.

Ultimate will be fairly rare to see, apparently.

I wish they'd release a 'core' version too, that ties components to your cd key.

Once you have your key, you assign it to your ms core account, then login and can buy extra components.

standard includes...
superfetch
bare essentials etc..

then from there you can buy..

IE
WMP
Media Centre
Remote Desktop
etc etc etc..

one thing they should drop is 'upgrade ability'

upgrades are dirty and leave so many left overs, there are too many variables to contend with, they should just force a boot from DVD install with no upgrade option
