Operation Flashpoint 2-Dragon Rising.

One thing I'm loving with AA at the moment is the MP Warfare mode they introduced on 1.14 patch. I played 1 round over Christmas that took 12 hrs, you start with all the towns under enemy control and have to clear them one by one.

Not long until AA2 I'm looking forward to that. As for OpFlash2 well I'll wait and see on that one.

Would you recommend Armed Assault in its current version? I played the original having been a HUGE fan of Operation Flashpoint (played lan for years) so I was completely disappointed with AA. It ran terribly and the AI was truly terrible.

Are there many players online or is it just dead?

To be honest when it first came out I played it for a couple of hours and then put it on shelf where it stayed until recently, I was really disappointed.
When it was released yes it was terrible, the sounds didn't work right along with optimisation problems etc etc.

I had some lan games with mates over this christmas break and with the latest patches the game actually runs right.
I wouldn't go so far as to say the AI is much better than it ever has been but it never bothered me all that much, I still get shot by units I've not even seen
There are plenty of people playing online and some decent UK coop servers around.

:D Ah the good days of Operation Flashpoint. I always remember as it being an amazing game!

But it was very hard! (I hope it wasnt just me, or i will just look stupid now:D)

yes it was indeed, the game was great and gameplay was brilliant but it had its bugs, the enemies for example were un-naturally accurate a lot of the time, one shotting you from ridiculous ranges using an AK-47 for example :(

There were some great mods that kept the game alive, and more than extended it for many years.

For example, FFUR Mod 2008. It replaced everything within the game, sounds, AI, weapons, Units and even added new animations such as being able to carry injured comrades out of harms way.

It's in my opinion the best LAN game out there.

Added new animations? Thats mad.

Is the original Flash point still worth a look with mods for some one who has not had the experience ? only i have it around some place.

Thx jamie

the original flashpoint without any mods is worth a look, runs fine on anything as well, but its a hard game that takes a bit to get used to, your so fragile compared to most other shooters but don't be discouraged! :)

Thanks i shall go find and have a play.

just saw trailers for this game and screenshots :O finally a game that looks like i will spend about 400000 hours on :D i hope this isn't a flop and will last till BF3 :)

i've been biting my nails waiting for this for years! i must have spent more hours on teh original than any other game. Hope to god codemasters dont disappoint!

I spent so much time playing and modding OFP1 it's ridiculous. I didn't play much Arma though, was in Uni then, so had other things on my mind. I loved how easily moddable OFP1 was. I remember doing some work for the Unsung mod, a vietnam mod that sadly never got released fully. If OFP2 will be just as easily modded, then it's gonna be amazing, especially with latest graphics etc.

EDIT - Has Bohemia Interactive got a part in this? Or is it Codemasters only? If Bohemia aren't involved, it might not have the same feel as OFP1 did. If I remember correctly, Codemasters owned the OFP title, but Bohemia Interactive did the coding etc.

Yeh, that's about it. From the Arma wiki.

"Because of legal issues between BI and Codemasters (the original publishers of Operation Flashpoint), Codemasters owns the intellectual property to the name Operation Flashpoint. Since BI severed its connection with Codemasters and no longer has the legal right to use the Operation Flashpoint name, Armed Assault is considered to be the direct descendant of Operation Flashpoint. There is another game currently under development called ArmA 2 (previously referred to as "Game 2") due for release in 2009. Codemasters plans to release a rival title to BI using the name Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising with which BI has no participation."

I noticed that OFP2 will be able to use the Novint Falcon. Hopefully we might have a supplier or two for the UK by the time OFP2 comes out. Be nice to try it at least but maybe not the best thing where RSI is concerned.

EDIT - Should have mentioned the gun part is just an add on for $20. The kit is anything up to $200.

Loved the original. Found ARMA too serious.

In the original Op FP you could seriously lark about, even in single player. Like in one single player night op missions where me and a mate took it in turns to see who could steal the tractor (in full view of a tank) and drive down the road the furthest :D

The helichoppers were fun too - if you could angle the blades right, you could seriously mow some enemies up :D

Two new in game trailers put up for ARMA2 on the IGN site.

Looks very nice, not as pretty as the COD series, but as long as they get the game right, the graphics will be good enough.

Looks like a nice effect on the motion blur when running.

Taff

The graphics can only be so good considering the scale of game.

Still yet to see any proper ingame footage of op flash so not sure what the graphics will be with that one
