I have exactly the same problem
Audigy 4 Pro - in games mainly - but in windows desktop too - loose sound after 5 mins - I'm sure its a driver problem
W7 64 bit edition -same as you
I'm reverting to on-board until the driver is sorted
Buckster, I think I may have solved the audio distortion/dropping issues expereincied with old Audigy cards on W7.
Daniel K has released an Audigy driver for W7 which adds support for:
- Audigy
- Audigy 2
- Audigy 2 ZS
- Audigy 4
Basically any sb card based on Emu10kx DSP chip
But the driver alone didnt solve the problem, I found the trick was to use a little executable program called ctzapxx.exe which completely removes all the old windows and creative driver file fragments and reg entries.
So if you fancy giving it a go Ive uploaded the files.....
I extracted the ctzapxx.exe file from an audigy driver support pack for vista 64 (Daniels release dont have it for some reason) and upped it here....

And here’s the drive release by Daniel K....

This bit I think is critical, when that little audio driver removal tool asks to reboot your pc make sure you are ready to prevent windows from automatically reinstalling its crap audio driver again after it reboots, otherwise your back to square one again.
When you know you sound card has no drivers installed run that audigy support pack by Daniel K which ive upped, and once its installed give it a few restarts to make sure it has definitely settled.
As it stands Ive been testing since yesterday critically listening to hours of music, with a good few hours racing around on gtr evo offline (online doesnt seem to like w7

) and shooting people in left 4 dead and not at any point did the audio distort let alone drop out as it did before with the old drivers
Hope this helps a few people out with there Audigys
Cheers
