Windows 7 beta - 9th January

Okay, there does seem to be a bit of an issue. Occasionally, my computer will just freeze up such that I can't even move my mouse and am forced to reset. I'm not even doing anything unusual when this happens - just web browsing, listening to music, etc.

That just sounds like system instability more than anything.

OK search found nothing. :)

I have a MSI K8 Neo2 plat mobo with onboard Realtek 97 audio. Just using a basic line out cable as I normally would in Vista. However I am getting stuttering sometimes in music, movies, flash videos etc. Anyone have any ideas? I'm guessing it's just old drivers because it's a old mobo.

Is Outlook Express in Windows 7? I can't find it and have a feeling it is not here. How can I use my old email address, will Thunderbird work in this beta if I put the pop/smtp settings?

Thanks

Michael

Outlook Express in Vista is Windows Mail, but in Windows 7 there isn't a mail client and they'll be trying to convert everyone over to Windows Live Mail which is basically the same thing.

Can get the install file from above. Or if you want to use Thunderbird your email will work if you put in your POP settings or even IMAP.

I'm having similar problems with AC'97 but mainly just bad quality sound rather than broken up sound. Windows 7 drivers do the same as the vista drivers installed in compatibility, and my Creative Soundblaster Live! 5.1 had exactly the same problem. They're probably just too old now, should build myself a new HTPC when I have the cash/time.

If I could just get back to a normal start menu I'd be happy (by normal I mean classic).

Everything else seems to work perfectly on there.

Anyone found a work around for W7 and Punkbuster? I know PB aren't officially going to support 7 until it's released but hey, there' some clever little coders out there. Just wondered if anyone has sorted it?

Oh, and if I used a disk partition tool, can I create a new partition on the existing Vista x32 drive, and install W7 and dual boot? If so, what partition tool can I use, and what size to make it?

Thx

Can you change the way the programs are, on your taskbar-not sure I like them like this. Think I pefer them to how older versions of windows have them layed out.

Yup you sure can, just right click on the taskbar and select properties and then choose never combine in the little drop down box next to where it says task bar buttons.

Well it's finally downloaded.. Now just to bother installing it. Worth doing through VM or should I just get off my arse and install it properly?

I cant get the download to work. I left it overnight and it finished but the file size is only 610mb. I selected 32bit.

Microsoft.com gave me a key followed by a download link but now whn i try it just sais failed. Can i download it elsewhere?

If so, does anyone have a reliable link i can download from ? (not worried about speed)

Thanks allot.

Have you tied clicking the link in IE instead of Firefox/Opera/Chrome/etc? I found that clicking the download link failed if I did it in Firefox.

By the way, I think my system instability might have something to do with downloading or uploading. All my previous crashes happened when I had uTorrent running, and it just crashed again while doing a broadband speed test (It did the download fine, but crashed on the upload part). Dodgy wifi drivers, maybe?

Just installed today, very nice OS, I liked Vista but Windows 7 seems a little nicer, seems nippier from new than Vista, only had to install one driver for the motherboard and the sound/gfx which was nice :)

Very impressed, will definitely get the release when it's out.
