sorry guys, another dreamy thread!

Just.. wow. I've never seen anyone actually argue how clever they are on the internet before. Why do you feel the need to do that?

Because people are saying things along the lines of "your clearly a retard, your opinion is pointless."

You still aren't in a position to help anyone choose a car.

Just as well I'm asking for it and not giving it then.

So when you say you know a lot about cars what you are really trying to say is "I know a lot about which cars I think look nice"

No, I know a lot about car history, about different cars, there specs, when they came out, etc. Things like that. I know more about modern cars though than classic ones.

Who has told you this? Your mother?

No, she's dead.

Avoid classics like the plague unless you have the time, effort, and money to keep them going, plus the patience of a saint. They are that bad, both neighbours of ours and especially my father are into their classics and they have all had numerous problems and have spent enough fixing them.

These things will just break down randomly for no reason at all.
You see, that's a problem for you but it's not a problem for me. I know my cars need spanner time but it doesn't bother me. It's all part of the deal and I account for that.

Besides, what you see as fixing stuff outside their house is probably routine maintenance.

Do you seriously still reckon this guy is genuine? It's great to see you offernig him constructive, serious advice and you obviously know his stuff but don't you even get a small inkling that you might be completely wasting your time?

Well if your so concerned about time wasting, why do you keep coming back for more? Do you not have better sources of entertainment? I would find it saddening to think that you don't.

my mum needs.

You mean your step mum?

Because I more or less go on personal opinion, but that's all the matters

Yes we know that, I mean just look at the Defender idea, looked great in magazines didn't it

it's my purchase after all, if something looks shoddy and crap to me I won't get it. Simple as, I don't need to justify what I call a crap car to you

Well yes we do, you've specified before you don't follow the norm in regards to meaning so, yes you do need to explain.

especially as that has nothing to do with the thread topic.

You've diverted from the thread topic many times, don't start hiding behind that when you're running out of steam.

I see what you are saying, and I believe you. But I know a lot of people that haven't had any break downs at all with old classics. I do have plenty of time and effort, and as long as the money isn't extortionate I have that too.

Yet you think 90's Vectras cost thousands of quid and 4 year old Mondeos are bangers? How odd.

No, you can pay thousands, for example a mint low milage orignal sporty model vectra will cost a few grand.

It will break down from time to time but that's what some tools in the back and breakdown cover are for.

Yes

I think so, but I like it for other reasons, going off roading in a defender has been one of the most fun things I've ever done.

Well yes we do, you've specified before you don't follow the norm in regards to meaning so, yes you do need to explain.

Why? It's just a personal thing, if I don't like a car, I don't like it, I don't need to tell you why, your not interested anyway, and you'll only disagree with me, which is stupid since it would only be my opinion.

You've diverted from the thread topic many times, don't start hiding behind that when you're running out of steam.

No I haven't, only in response to other peoples diversions in which I feel the need to defend myself when being called a retard.

Even if it doesn't break down there's still the fact that they drive a lot differently and you need to anticipate things better due to brakes/handling. Not saying it's impossible but its hardly ideal to get used to driving in an old classic. it can be done but i wouldn't fancy it.

Ok, on teaboys mondeo then I have been show to be wrong, if that is an "official" defintation. I can't be bothered to check since I don't actually care.

What your opinion of Banger is doesn't change the fact that you're being ridiculous.

A banger is an old car in poor condition, everyone on gods earth knows this. Except for you. With the Mondeo i see a safe, reliable and well kept car and you see a banger - i mean how can you expect anyone to take you seriously?

I would, sounds like fun to me.

Anyway, from now on I'm going to try to not post in the thread apart from to reply to posts which are actually useful and relevant to the OP.

I'd say it's totally ideal to get used to driving an old classic. What you're saying then is learning proper car control is not important. It probably goes a long way to explain my good car control and the lack of car control I've witnessed in the last few days. Shouldn't you be anticipating what's going on in front of you anyway?
