Halo Wars Demo on XBL Thurs Feb 5th 9am GMT

Just finished playing, i dont like the fact that the rewards, eg gold silver etc etc are time related, the 2nd misson took me 56 mins to complete, as i like to take my time , explore everything and kill everything, think Gold reward was like 15mins

Took me the same length of time to complete the second level and I'm sure I got gold, I think it takes other things into account other than just time, kill to death ratios, research etc.

From memory my score was 70,509 so I only just got the medal. I'm not sure but I think there was also a massive multiplier in my stats.

I will

You have no interest in the Halo story though so it's obvious you won't be buying it for single player. I love the halo story (games and books) so am looking forward to more story in the universe.

I meant RTS games in general, although I appreciate that this is an exception :)

Sweeping statement. I know you only pretty much play multiplayer exclusively, but some people (e.g. me) do prefer single player to multiplayer, believe it or not.

RTS games in particular are pretty poor for single player though, and though it may be a sweeping statement I feel it's justified in this case.

I played a lot of Halo 3 as my mates did but I'm not interested in the Halo "plot" and don't find the games particularly fun in multiplayer.

Saying that I'll end up getting this as Alrik and Krono will no doubt buy it to feed their Halo addiction.

I'm very disappointed by the AI, easily beating the hardest setting without any issues or knowledge of the game. You don't buy this kind of game for single player though so hopefully it will be fun for 3v3 online.

Population caps are helpful to keep the game balanced and force regular battles, as well as guaranteeing that the limited RAM on the 360 can cope.

You produce some very valid points matey - What got me was why when I played one of the missions I only got a bronze medal? I assume how many casualties your team encounters has something to do with it!

I really should have read the rest of the thread:

I will be buying this for single player... and are the rewards ONLY based on time? If so that really sucks

I went back and played the second mission to try and get gold and looked at the scoring system. The score is based intially on the number of primary and secondary objectives you complete. You then get a Combat bonus which relates the the Kill : Death Ratio of you against the opposition and finally the time bonus.

For the second mission the par time is 15:00-30:00 and my first run through I took about 40 mins doing everything properly and building the base up and scored about 25,000. Then I did it again faster missing the secondary objectives and it only took me 15mins but I had a lot of deaths and scored 40,000. Then I did a final run through taking a bit longer doing the secondary objectives and I also found the option on the Spirit of Fire to heal my troops so my combat multiplier was 10x which I presume is max and I scored 86,000 for Gold. :)

I am not very good at RTS games, but did find this quite fun - i got owned on Skirmish though, mainly because i take a route of building up base and defenses and no units, so the AI just sends a small group in and i get pwned... still i like the way it all works with the bases and what not - just do not like the limit on the army (more so in single player when you can;t alter is as much)

I buy every RTS for single player, I like taking my time with RTS games so multiplayer isn't really suited to me :)

i said for the win, but it got starred out for some reason, i love halo! played and own all the games and the novels, great universe! :) best book is fall of reach though!

whoops, sorry for the misunderstanding :p

Something to kill the time before SFIV comes out I guess :D

i carnt wait for this

was just saying that very same thing to mate today, we both been playing the demo (he gave it a run through as UNSC and i did with covenant) and overall i think its a well thought out game, the base building reminds me of BFME where you started with a castle and had to build your barracks, supplies, etc. the control interface in halo wars is great for a console, its quick and effortless, more importantly its effective and easy to master, my only gripes are the visuals although good are ruined by some of the model details and textures :( something i hope is better in the full release though. i think i will definately be purchasing it, just hope im not disappointed with the full version! :D

I don't own Halo 1, only played if for about an hour.

You're getting me confused with Kronologic.

Who's this Kronologic your talking about... No one of that name posts here...

Haven't had time to DL this yet (didn't even know it was out till Kreeeee pointed it out over MSN the other night :o)

Will try to take the time to have a look. Chances are I'll like it. I'm not as elitist as Kreeeee when it comes to RTS games. As long as I can churn out an almost infantile number of units and send them to their deaths I'm a happy camper.
