Western Digital Rant

Well lessoned learned, i just didn't think it'd take nearly two months for a standard rma turnaround. Next time it will be an advanced rma..... but hopefully that won't be any time soon.

And yeah for items such as these i always go special delivery, just so i can track it if anything and have one less thing to worry about.

Thats nothing,

Returned a laptop to comet after 3rd fault in just 10 months, and again they would only send it away for repair.

You know their 28 days repair/replace policy(not sure if its anymore but needless to say USELESS)

Anyhow the story goes, after two weeks contacted them to find out whats happening, guess what.... they lost it(took a few days to discover this)

Spoke to manager/CA, and then after another week they *resent* the laptop to HP. Then we got a call from HP asking if we had it.

Thats not even the half of it....

Long story short after 7 weeks we got it back(repaired again).

QOS stands for a lot, and I know several people including myself wont shop there again...

*** never had a fault with OCUK, thought I should point that out!!!

I returned a 36gb AND a 76gb raptor, both replaced with ADFD's

very happy... and ony deal in raptors really apart from one RE2...

I am a big WD fan though so quite biased....

Maybe give them a second chance..

Over the Christmas period (that is if your package was posted over the Christmas period), I've learned never to put much faith in Royal Mail Recorded. Especially for anything important, as signatures and records don't show up for up to a week after "delivery". Special Delivery costs the extra, but you'll see it on track and trace much sooner.

Ah no, this was an old RMA dating back to last year sometime. It wasn't around any holidays it just never seemed to arrive (and therefore be registered) with WD in Hounslow (I think).

Arrived today, yay! They've replaced the Raptor X with the Velociraptor, which is a tiny drive, but not quite laptop tiny, enclosed in a hard drive shaped heatsink.

I sent my External 500gb drive to WD 3 weeks ago and i have heard nothing from them either. Man it sure is painful losing your data but i had a good chunk backed up on about 50 DVD's;).

They need to get upload speeds up on broadband connections so external backups are faster, that would be a good new market.

Yes it is the 150GB, they replaced it for a size for size. And no i can't bitch anymore, but damn i had to wait a long time. The veloci seems a lot quieter than the old raptor x.

When my external USB MyBook drive started to die, I rang WD up and the diagnosis was as I'd expected and that it was most likely because I just used to pull out the usb cable often to turn it off.

Anyway, apart from the cost of sending it back (somewhere abroad, right?), I'm sure the turnaround wasn't that bad (3-4 weeks).

ROFL, i'm so sorry, i have airsoft guns on the brain, sorry it's WD, my mistake.

And the drive in question is an original Raptor X 150GB, the place i sent it off to was in hounslow middlesex. I really hope this is a one off incident though, as some posters seem to have had a good experience.

not a one off im affriad

My 74gb raptor died and i setup the RMA on th 16th November (dayy before yours i think lol). they recieved the drive 2 days later and then nothing. they said it would take upto 7 business days for it to appear on their system, 11 business days later it finally did but then i find i had to wait another 7 business days for them to process the drive. another 10 days passed and it finally processed but there was a problem and they couldnt send me out a new drive due to stock shortages. I had allready tired to phone then and emailed them long before this with no success and no replies.

When i saw the whole "delayed" bit due to the shortages they had i got on the phone again (quite late int eh day) and i actually got through to someone. had a bit of a rant to him down the phone and he said he'd get back to me after he spoke to some technician. the next day I had an email saying my drive had been shipped and would be here by the 23rd December. it did actually turn up on that date and was pleasently suprised to find they'd given me a 16meg sata2 version of the 74gb raptor back.

next time i'm doing an advanced RMA. even though their RMA service takes the pee, their drives are still one of the best in terms of reliability so I will happily still buy them

You got a Veloci back?

I wish my Raptor X broke now :p

(Actually I don't because I've got it mounted in the roof of my case so I can see through the drive window, gutted the clear drives aren't made any more)

They seem to have mislaid my drive :o after enquiring I've been asked to provide proof of postage (glad I sent it Special Delivery now) so my advice would be to get onto them pretty quickly if you've done an Advance and the 7 business days are up.

Surely the ~30% better performance and quieter running is enough to make you feel less hard done by though :p

I have sent 2 WD Raptors (one 32gb one 150gb) back over the last couple of years both my RMA's have been speedy and had my drives back within week to a week and a half max.

from my experience I cant fault there RMA process.

Well I sent back a dead 250G AJS (about two & a half years old) three weeks ago. Got a confirmation of them receiving it & not a squeak out of them since. Is there any way I can chase them up on this?

Welcome to the world of BS computer customer service, all companys i dont care which one, they are all the same, fast enough to take your money but when it comes to RMA it takes months.

Your wrong.... i dont and im a computer company.... cant say what as against the rules but i want to stick up for myself here? and OCUK do a fine job also! 99.9% of the time and its impossible to keep every screamer happy.
