Nikon D400 Rumour Thread

It should be good, im a canon person myself, but this could cause me to jump ship:)


So, we know the D400 is coming and I will not be surprised if we see it in the next week or so, together with the new Nikon AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G DX. I am also smelling another lens, maybe FX… Maybe a remake of an existing lens, but I do not have any info on this - just my own speculation. Nikon has to release something in FX, otherwise all the full frame fans will be ****** about the new DX products. If you remember, the Nikon D90 was released before Photokina, so the D400 could be released before PMA, especially since Canon is expected to release new products as well in the next 2 weeks.

Here are some more related rumors I received, all unconfirmed:

Got a report form a reputable small dealer - D400 should come with 1080p video, more pixels, and better noise. It doesn’t say much, but the point was that it should “really replace” the D300.

Someone (anonymously) sent me some good D400 lottery numbers: 15, 6, 12800, 51, and 1080. I don’t know, it could be a joke.
 
I'm heading to Thailand in June, really wanted a new DSLR with video for this, I know its just rumors but anyone have an idea if theres a successor to the 450D with HD Video? I'm just beginning to learn about camera product cycles.
 
I can't imagine any existing D300 owners jumping ship for HD video, or, realistically more MP, and I'd be surprised if a higher MP count led to better noise properties too. It's the same move as the Canon 40D to 50D "upgrade" path that has actually resulted in a somewhat different camera.
Be interesting to watch how it goes.
I could understand a D700x appealing to landscape togs but an APS-C sensor at 20+MP..why?.

Random question, what's the deal with SLRs offering 1080p recording? Who would want to make a recording with an SLR, to me it just doesn't seem the most suitable.
 
cant see them releasing a d400 any time soon as the 300 is still selling well and they have just release the 700, if they release a 400 that could take sales away from the other 2 which could be bad for them possible a late 2010 release if the economy is on track to be normal again.
 
Video on DSLRs seem like a good idea, Interchangable lenses on video cameras are in the professional range, and I dont have need for a professional videocamera, but it would be cool to take short 1080P clips with whatever lens when your out and about. I'm guessing that image quality will be top notch comapred to your typical videocam on holiday because of the large lens and image sensor. Thats why I'm dying to try it out!

Well in the case of the 5DMK2 (As it's the only one we can really judge such a features worth, as it's the only one with it at all!) it's proving to be incredibly popular with the video crowd due to two main factors,

1) Low light ability due to huge sensor,
2) Depth of feild control due to the same.

It seems for the price the quality to get (So i've been told by my video buddies, it doesn't interest me personally, yet!) and the benefit of the incredibly vast lens range for the Canon DSLR system it's really quite unparalleled for cinematic purpose.

on here http://nikonrumors.com/ books have been spotted that arent far off release, it happened with the 5dmk2 as well, books being seen before the release.

Nikon dont hang about releasing new models, they sometimes release x versions 6 months after, i like this approach, canon had the 18 month cycle or longer, but with the 50d , that broke that cycle.

Ive seen some of the 5dmk2 videos in 1080p on the net, the quality is stunning if you know what your doing.

Now I get the rest of them, but the 51 is puzzling me. Frames before filling the buffer?

That's if it's true at all, find out next week.:p
 
the d300 has 51 points......nothing new

They only light up when they are chosen though.

My canon has 45, in a similar config:

The D300 even though it now a year old is still best in it class, Nikon really don't need to replace this body yet.

But it seems now that DSLR have fallen into the silly MP race, so no doudt we see a D400 or a D300x with 15mp & 1080p movie mode.

And i personally don't see the need of 12800 ISO as it barely usable.

Taking about movie mode if they really want to get one up on the comp, then they should make it AF.
 
There is not much a D400 would do that a D300 wont. The body will be the same, the same focusing, the same metering, processor. The sensor will be new, but 12Mp is already basically limit for a DX sized sensor. Nikon certainly wont do the MP race like Canon and their 50D and sacrifice noise performance, IQ, dynamic range etc just to get more MP than the rivals. I expect modest rise to 14MP, but hoping they stick to 12. Perhaps half a stop more noise performance, 1080P video.

I'll be buying a D300 on the cheap.
