The Nokia 5800 Express Media (Tube) Thread

been using it for nearly a week now, i'm still trying to find something wrong with it (other than the camera). Tinternet is really good, its the first phone i've ever had that actually delivers what i would classify as a 'pleasant' browsing experience. the speed of downloads is lightening compared to my old n96.

I also love the way that when you lock the keypad it literally blacks out immediately, not wasting any power on fading out the lights like on most other phones i've owned. the only niggle i've got at the minute is when you do something like save an image (from the web or bluetooth etc) then a bar comes up saying 'image saved'. the bar stays there for at least 2 seconds which dosnt sound like a lot but its really annoying me for some reason! i know the image has been saved- i just asked you to do it!! (i'm whining about nothing i know)

havnt loaded many apps for it yet, where can i get 'office' for free anyone?

Is the camera worse than the 2.0mp one with a scratched up lense on my W810i? If it's even remotely better it'll do me :p

What's browsing like?

I thought I was the only one left...

cradles W810i lovingly and wipes tear from eye...

I've been looking for afew months now for a replacement, the 5800 is the only one so far that does everything I want and doesn't cost the earth. All I need to find now is someone who does a proper hands free cradle for it.

Well I've just ordered one from o2 upgrades, was hoping to get the £35 tariff reduced to £25 so I could get unlimited internet but as I dont go over my allowance they wouldn't do it lol

Got the £30 tariff knocked down to £25 (£24 odd with current VAT) per month with 400mins 1000 texts Unlimited o2 calls and a £20 shopping voucher.

Went to every bloody phone store in Richmond today at lunch and none of them would sell it to me on PAYG. Had a bit of a play though and it seems awesome. Gonna have to go to the Nokia store in Regent St and pick one up there, unless someone has a better idea?

As a slight aside, anyone know which carriers let you use Skype with one of their 'unlimited' mobile addons? - aside from Three, who seemed to think that they wouldn't support the use of the 5800 with them.

IamMed,

What length contract was that under?

I just called O2 and they could sell me the phone for £205.

Tempted...

I have just been into town to see if i could pick up one of these babies. apparently they arent doing Pay as you go with them anymore, since saturday. phones4u was giving me abit of the hard sell so that put me off going on the tmobile contract tbh...

Current paying £20 for the O2 simplicity 600 mins and 1000 texts plus unlimited web.

I rang O2 and said I was thinking of cancelling since Vodafone were doing a better deal,

The guy was very helpful and came back to me with the same tarrif that I am on now including the unlimited web for £25 a month, so that is just under £10 cheaper than online.

I am very happy and was told I would receive the handset tomorrow.

Cant wait :p

Just ordered this from o2 over the phone for £205.

Tariff is 18 month - 200 mins, 400 texts, unlimited o2 calls - £10 (this is with loyalty carrying on from a £30 contract last year)

Do you mean you have to pay £205 and then monthly line rental on top of this?

O2 allow online customers to purchase a “full price” offline handset which doesn’t renew your contract as you’ve paid full price, they will allow you to buy two within a 18 month period and also upgrade at the end of the contract. The handsets are also reduced as example above £205 for this 5800 when they are more like £260 offline and direct from Nokia...

Is that "offline" Phone unlocked? Carphone warehouse are selling the same phone unlocked for £200 if you top up with £10 on T mobile (something you could sell).

I've got this phone, the camera is fine really just don't take pitch black photos and expect crystal clear xenon stuff. :p Medium to full lighted areas are best. I absolutely love the music player on this, I had the 5310xpressmusic and it was good but nothing compared to this one. It does help having good headphones though.

I've not really checked out the other stuff as of yet. Do I have to pay for the satellite navigation? My friend said I would but I wassn't too sure.
