Insured my car for trhe first time yesterday, may have a problem already.

Insurance prices are getting silly. I've been quoted £3600 FC on a 1.25 Fiesta Zetec worth £1200, as recommended off this forum. Considering I live in a nice area (although a few cars down this road have been stolen/broken into, most recently a modded CTR about 18 months ago which probably pushes the price up), I'd hate to know what its like in rough areas!

I dunno, im more bothered about the studio work she can get me :D

Shes invited me up on sunday, not using my own camera though that isnt allowed apparantly.

This is a joke, ive just done a quote for myself and its gone up to £1800 just for me, for a £300 punto, im SOOO annoyed right now, this is a joke, they want £300 as a deposit.. £300!!!! Do they think im made of money, for goodness sake ive got a £300 punto, thats as much as my deposit.

What a complete joke.

My deposit is more then my mum insures her focus fully comp for.

Welcome to the real world. This is what happens when you get your first car. You are considered a huge risk, and as a result, your insurance is enormous. Your Mum is considered a low risk, so her premium is low. As you get older, it goes down.

I aint insuring it myself.

Then you had better sell the car if you cannot afford to run it properly.

Maybe sell your IPHONE 3G ON O2 to fund it. Or those £55 cargo pants.s

What do i expect? I expect it to be atleast reasonable.. Reasonable would be acceptable, that is just a joke.

What they should do is charge less and if you have 1 accident, only 1, then it shoots up higher then what its at now..

Its like there trying to put people off driving.

Ill be in a better position by then.

Not at all.
They are working out what kind of risk you are and then setting a premium based on this.
You are a new, inexperienced driver.
Statistics show that young, inexperienced, male drivers are most likely to be involved in an accident.
If you don't have an accident then you'll gain NCB and as you become more experienced so your premiums will drop.

Insurance companies "encourage" new drivers via premiums to buy older, less valuable and less powerful vehicles as they are less likely to cause damage in one.
Unless you've got parents willing to pay your early premiums for you, or you've got a pretty well paid job then we all went through this as new, inexperienced drivers at some point or another.

Remember the premium doesn't just cover any potential damage to your own vehicle, it covers the potential damage you could do to people or to that row of new vehiclles you could end up ploughing into.

Have you tried adding your mum as a named driver on your policy, as this can bring the premium down considerably.

I'm not surprised at the £1800 premium TPFT, mine was £1170 on a 1.6 Megane and i was 22 when i got my first policy (also TPFT).

Also, with regards to you saying 'even if i smash my car up i wont claim', if someone else is involved then you may not have a choice in the matter.

If you don't want to pay properly for insurance like the rest of us. Get the Bus.

Very, very selfish attitude dude. I remember Fronting when I was younger, but didn't realise what the implications were, listen to this lot.

Welcome to the real world... :)

PS: I thought insurers can only reject a claim for fronting if it is one of the named drivers which owns the car rather than the main driver. Is that not the case then?

She has 3 years no claims on her car, we used that no claims on the other policy too, so will it affect her first policy if she has to claim? Although if i smashed the car up it wouldnt be worth claiming.

You know you can't do this, right?

As a side note - did anybody else read the "In Gear" supplement of the Sunday Times. It's mostly full of crap, but a person was advised to front to save money by the advice columnist!!
