why buy an i7

I upgrade my system completely every 2-3 years and buy the fastest/futureproof system i can get.
So , i'll be going i7.

I'm getting an i7 system simply because I can FINALLY run SLI on an Intel chipset motherboard again (I had it on an old ASRock motherboard with hacked drivers). And not just any old SLI, TRI-SLI:D

what a d ick!

You'd have thought the fact that you have to mis-spell the word to get it to post should be a good indication that sort of language isn't acceptable. And personal attacks are against the rules as well.

RaiderX is one of those people who leads - new tech, higher overclocks, pushing the limits at all times. That makes him worthy of respect in my eyes, certainly not ridicule.

There's no reason for you to get one since you already have a good cpu. I went for it because I was tired of my old amd 3000+ and wanted the best thing on the market. I don't upgrade very often.

Sorry to change the subject O; hope you don't mind for a brief moment.

Noticed in your sig you have an Enermax 85+ Revolution. What's it like as I'm building my system next week and I haven't decided on a PSU yet. I'm looking at all 3 of them, 850 / 950 / 1250.

To OP - I'm building a new system so I'm going Core i7! No point you upgrading yet like others have said.

I agree with most of the pionts made here
that being if you where coming from an older platform like 939 amd or 478 pentiuim 4 then YES definetly go for i7 if funds allow
Or if you are doing large amounts of video encoding/ 3d rendering etc and have the programs that will make use of 8 threads then again YES
however if you are mainly gaming on your pc or are just upgrading for the fun of it then the answer would be not really.
But as they say it is your money and you free to do with it as you wish.

I'm like quite a few here that have replied in the upgrade when really needed catagory as such coming from a 939 amd 4400 x2 rig the i7 would be a big benifet to me,
but im also in the catagorey of it being out of my price range therefore im looking at Phenom ii systems at present as they are within my £400-£450 budget. Hopefully mines will be built by the end of april.

If i were you i would save my money or if you really want a new part why not buy a bigger monitor Dell 27" Your Gfx card is already running at 1920x1200
