CoD: Modern Warfare 2 confirmed

I wouldn't say that, CoD4 feels very much dumbed down and much easier to kill people that CoD1 and CoD2.
WRONG!

By nature of the fact that console controls will never ever ever be as accurate and direct as a keyboard and mouse, and that the target audience for console games is much different to PC gamers (read 'stupid, American and 7') any FPS that is designed for consoles will always be a dumbed down soft version of what it could have been should it have been a PC developed game.

FPS games havent been the same since UT was Halo-ised with 2003.
A part from the complete lack of recoil, real bullet damage and single shot weapons being about as a effective as sneezing somewhere in the general direction of the enemy, all due to controllers.
I know what is happening here, I don't really remember the "good" CoDs, or rather I don't remember why the fighting mechanics were any better. Ignorance is bliss I suppose, I imagine I would agree if I could remember, but I just don't see how the series is any more ridiculous.

Still, modern CoDs are good games, and the trade offs we make in a multi platform game could be much worse. I still don't think the console era is a huge concern with this IP.

Its a weird one for me really. The single player aspect for COD 4 is the same as COD & COD:UO, scripted and linear but with a relatively involving story.

I found that the MP side COD and COD:UO although arcadey they still had an element of simulation within. I found it took more skill to kill someone in those games rather than COD 4.

Without any trumpet blowing i did find it easy/easier to kill people on COD 4 MP. It just felt too arcadey for me.

Maybe its because i went from COD:UO (When in went quiet on servers) to Red Orchestra.

I found the simulation aspect of RO very rewarding. The fact that you had to work hard for a kill really brought it home for me.

I know that obviously loads of people love COD 4 etc (and quite rightly so in there own way). My downside is that im striving for a bit of realism without be anal. COD 2 onwards didn't do that for me.

Maybe Operation Flashpoint 2 will be more up your alley then.

I think this is great news, nice that they have released a approx date so i can plan when i am going to play the previous games again :p

To the people complaining, its CoD, pure and simple, one of the best if not the best game franchise that i have played on the PC.

For me:
-CoD 1: was great, it was new, exciting and different from other ww2 shooters (mohaa namely) in a good way. It was evolution for games in that CoD 1 really brought the battle into your room. Realistic sound, the ambience and so on.
-CoD UO: a good addon, the sp although short, was action packed and a decent experience. MP is where it shined, adding new scenarios as well as the usual, weapons, vechiles, etc. I played this a hell of a lot when it came out, it was FUN to play.
-CoD 2: highly anticipated and i had a blast on it. sure it never was quite as jaw dropping as the first CoD but i never expected it to be. Sure, the graphics were touched up but the same game mechanics were there, this is could be a good or a bad thing. For me it was nice as the SP was more complexed and in some ways more involving, but thats just my opinion. The MP also became the "new" standard for future CoD. I felt that CoD1, felt a lot more intense on a search and destroy map than CoD2, again personal opinion.
-CoD 3: Never even touched this game, and why would I? its on a console and i dont own a console. So that was that.
-CoD 4: Now i love this game, the sp was exciting, varied and diverse in the objectives, maps and scenarios. This was good and although it was short, it was easily one of the best sp games that i have played. Graphics again, polished and more detailed, but i never felt that they went out of their way to create a new engine and instead "upgraded" the old one (CoD2). Various graphical and technology features arent really there yet, ragdoll physics for one...no way does it come close to a game like CSS in that department.Sound was good and what i would expect for the a game based in the modern era, but i cant help but feel that the ww2 sounds, be it ambient or gun fire sounds, just sounded more beastly.
-CoD 5: I cant really comment on yet as i have not tried but i do intend on buying it as i am sure i will enjoy it.

I know that is a bit long winded but hey, its a thursday night.

To sum up, its "Call of Duty". Just buy it, i am 90% sure that it will be a success if not better than the last modern warefare installment.

That was just my thoughts.

I only finished COD2 SP last night (that hill 400 took a bit of effort). I never bothered with it much after installation but I'm moving over to my new rig and I got Modern Warfare to put on it so I thought what the hell. I did it while Prime95 was running on my new rig.

On a positive note though, I'm no longer scared of Tiger Tanks :p

I'll probably get the new one too

Anyone actually know whats new about the game? Are they going along the lines of introducing vehicles? Or just sticking to the same but better graphics and more weapons?

Anyone?

TBH i would be happy with the same graphics/weapons as CoD4 but just a new singleplayer story.

Yeh, me too. COD4 is one of the best games in recent years in my opinion. Really am looking forward to november now! Just hope Infinity Ward dont pull a treyarch and keep the standard they set in COD4.

I assume it'll just bring a new SP story line but probably beef up the number of weapons and other toys to play with in MP. I hope they bring in the MG36, I absolutely love that gun for some reason :o

I really hope they don't introduce vehicles though, CoDWaW tanks were just retarded and spoiled an otherwise decent MP experience. Absolutely nowhere near as good as the CoD4 MP though, and the standard of play online in WaW has really gone down the ****ter.

Same here, and will this new modern warefare use the same engine or have they created a new one?

I would like them to beef up the current weapons a bit with better sound and detail. I feel they should add more of a "kick" when firing the weapon. Currently i only get that from the SAW and RPK ;)

They have been using the same engine since vCoD i doubt they will change it now :p
