first of all i buy a sammy drive, 1 month later i get SMART failure but the drive was still working so i kept on useing it due to not having to go though the hassle of dumping data and sending it back, well 5months later now the drive is Freeseing my system up and under the samsung test its failing so i go ok now its time to send the drive back.

ok i order another samsung 1tb drive to dump the data from this busted drive to the new one and send this one back for replacment.

well now i got the new drive and its in worst shape than the busted SMART failing one lol
under the samsung util test its passing all the tests but its UBER SLOW on the RANDOM SEEK test and the drive is makeing all sorts of weird seeking noises that the other drive didnt make

installing vista back onto this new drive is a task in its self, what took the other drive 15 minutes to do took this drive over 35minutes and whats worse is the vista internal benchmark rates my sammy as a 5.2 score where as the other one had a constant 5.9 max

this is just the most worst luck i have had with computer components in ages.
and i just dont know what to do

i made a post to OC in the forums ect asking if i could swap these drives for western digital black versions but i noticed yet again bad luck the drives are all out of stock lol

so now i dont know what drives they can replace me with becuse as far as im conserned i dont want another samsung drive ever again.
i was looking at the drives that are in stock and there inst much to choose from what drive is in stock thats just as fast as the sammys i just dont know what to do.

2 1tb drives that i might aswell just use as toothpicks heh i laugh when im ******.

Have you ruled out problem is not other components, e.g. mobo, SATA cable, etc?

all my other sata hdds are working perfectly. includeing these 2 1TB drives i have 6 in my pc total.

Rampage formula x48 SATA II interface

Trust me its the drives mate :( i think there cheaply made .. :/ or arent tested though Q/A properly, or i was just unlucky and got 2 borked drives *laughs*

if OC dont swap the drives for adequet drives with same speed and cache and space then i will be asking them to run the drives though samsungs testing utility before sending them to me.

look around various forums Virus, F1 deaths are everywhere yet the die hards continue to believe they're the greatest ever.

i guess until you're bitten they seem great coz they're fast and cheap :) but i'm happy to pay a little extra for WD coz i don't need 8TB falling down.

get your RMA's back and sell em off to a samsung lover, there's no shortage :p

Yes because everyone that has one that is working is lying arn't they . Fact is they have sold a lot of these drives so it is only to be expected that you will see more posts about bad drives because no one posts up to say "hey i got this drive a year ago and it's still working". All maker's have bad batches including WD and seagate not so long ago so lets keep a little perspective i know it's not as much fun as bashing something.

As people have already said, it really is down to bad luck with bad batches of the hard drives.

I've had as much bad luck with Western Digital drives in the past, so that put me off them for good.

So now I'm one of many happy Samsung customers.

only ever had 1 drive die , a old WD 120gb SE and that died in a week , replacement is still going meny years later , with stuff like hard drives and ram that loads are made daily tha flood the market the number of which that died is going to be higher than something that dose not sell as many units , like a monitor

You will be on Rexo's christmas card list like me. Welcome to the F1 club!!!

Had 3 drop out on me with smart errors, didn't bother returning the last one. It's sat here while I can think of something to do with it before I bin it.

And you look at wd drives are failing every where. In both cases the percent is so small though.

OCUK are willing to swap the drives for me but i need some advise from the HDD gurus.

i have been looking at this drive :

Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (WD1001FALS)

my questions are the following compairing this drive to the sammy F1 1TB ect

does the drive have 3 platters like the samsung drive ?
is the drive as fast as the samsung drive ect

im trying to find a drive thats just as fast and uses just the same amount of platters...
aswell as reliability ect as i think western digital is a better hdd maker than samsung

could you guys help,,
cheers.

ahh ****, never mind guys im just gonna keep getting OC to send me Sammys untill i get one that works

they cant all be bad drives i mean they cant be this bad lol

Well i have just had word from OCUK and they are going to hand test the drives that they send back to me once i send the faulty ones back...

hopefully now i wont get a busted one :D thats pritty nice of them

maybe your postman likes to play kick'a'box?

This is very likely the source of the problem. If your local driver slings stuff about hard then its possible hes destroying them all.

I have always bought hard drives in person, even if it costs a bit more, for this very reason.

Ive used 40+ samsung drives now in customers pcs over the past year or so and not had a single one go wrong ( yet ) :p

Samsung is only good for making TV's and monitor's maybe they should stick to it.
A lot of people have reported disk failures especially for the F1 Spinpoint series, just google or youtube it.

Go for WD next time.
