A House Cat?

Should also mention that as cats get older they seem less interested in the outdoors. It's younger cats that want to be outside practising hunting and walking on roofs and things!

I have 2 indoor cats. They don't miss the outside as they've never been there :D

Always had indoor cats as nearly everyone I know has had a cat killed by traffic.

My Cat got killed last Sunday in traffic :( I'm heartbroken

We found him the next morning (he was missing) spread out on the pavement. I had to pick him up and take him home. We gave him an awesome send off he was very special

All these people saying cats can't be kept indoors clearly haven't had many cats :/

We have 2 back home. One is a full on outdoor cat spends 50% of her time chasing birds. But the other is scared of the slightest noise or anything it hasn't seen before so won't go outside most of the time unless we are outside.

I think it is cruel. Cats like to have territory and hunt.

I hope one day they kill you and escape your prison.

Obviously if you give them the otion and they want to stay inside then fair enough. But if they have been locked inside for years they are obviously going to be cautious.

We've got three indoor cats, although we let them out when we're about in the garden. Only one of them really shows an interest in going out, the other two are quite happy to chase each other round the house. I'd never had indoor cats before these and I'd certainly not have even thought about it but these are three of the friendliest and happiest cats I know.

But I just don't see the point, why not just get a cat flap?

why not give the cat the option, what does one gain from keeping a cat locked up other than a smelly litter tray.

Some people might live in flats, other's in high traffic areas.
Cats have adapted very well to being indoor only, provided you do not buy a breed that expects to be outdoors.

If that cat doesn't know what he's missing he won't mind. :)

Our cat loves just lazing about on the sofa and is scared to go into the landing (we live in a flat too). He looks out the window but he wouldn't have a clue what to do if we let him out. He even hates going to the vet as the wind blows into his carrier!!

I'd recommend going to a rescue and asking if they have any indoor only cats.

If you're intent on getting a purebreed I'd still suggest going to rescue and asking if they have any and giving an unwanted kitty a home.

Here's my lovely boy :)

SOME cats like to hunt. Not all.

Other cats just like to sleep and be played with and are content with that. Our older cat is like this.

I quite agree.

I have a house cat, he's called Milo. :) - he's firmly in the "sleep & be played with" camp! :D

:D

He's a general pain in the rear, won't go out for love nor money and knocks most things over as he walks past them! Oh!, he only drinks from taps.......

I think its far from cruel - Milo can go out if he wants too, but simply won't! - I have no problems with leaving him in the house for long stretches of time, he has food & water (from the tap!) and is more than happy.

That said - I'll probably get a load of Animal Rights Protesters turn up outside my house now!:rolleyes::p

BTW, My old Ginger Tom "Scanny" used to go out for weeks at a time and hated staying in.

Same as me!... My two (brother and sister) are happy enough running round, up and down the stairs all day (at least when I'm in) or sleeping on my bed when they're not going bonkers...

They've been out maybe once, Flynn (the boy) explored the garden then wandered back inside and has never bothered to go out again, even with the door open!... and Callia (my baby girl) will only get her front paws outside then go back inside...

Flynn ventured outside last week into the snow!.. 3 seconds he lasted before running back in and hiding under my duvet!!.. :D

Why is it cruel!?!?...

My two have all the food they can eat (just look above and see Flynn!!.. he's hardly skinny!! nearly 3 and he's Hooooge!!!)... They have free fun of the the house and can venture anywhere they want!!... They choose to stay in! even with Windows and doors open they don't go out!..

Its not cruel!!...

Cruel would be to let the Local Chavs have their way with them (as has happened round this way!!) or venture across some busy roads!!..

Yeah there's more fun things to climb in the house, it;s warmer, there's nice soft carpets and pillows not mud and concrete, and there's a sappy human to provide food at their beck and call :d

Indoors F TW
