I expect it has more to do with the 2 weeks running up to the 1st of jan. Would hardly be a great time registering hundreds of cars.
its not just the registering of the car. It has to be made and delivered to the dealership. Hardly an ideal time of year to be doing it.
So what do dealerships do on Jan 1st? Last I checked they still had cars to sell, the number plate on the car makes no difference as to it's delivery time to dealer.
Have you ever seen how busy a garage is on 1st March compared to 1st Jan?
Exactly, they order them and pick it up on new reg day, which in your world would be the 1st of January, which is a bank holiday. And for the cars to be ready at the dealership they would have had to have been delivered over christmas. And again, how is this an issue? Most people do not walk into dealer, buy a brand new car and then drive off with it - seeing as the required spec is rarely ready there and then.
Seen a few

Can you really not see the issues here?
Quite surprised but I've actually yet to see an 09 plate out and about yet.
Indication of how bad new car sales are?
On a sidenote, what happens in 2010? How will they accomodate the double-digit?

Apparently they are going to use 10 and 60, 11 and 61 and so on
damn moss beat me while I was looking at other stuff![]()
Yep, should be good until 2050 apparently...
2049 to be exact
Wonder what they'll use then?
I don't see why we need 01 and 51 plates really, could have got 100 years out of the system if they simply went 01 02 03 and so on
