We have found Atlantis!

Even if this wasn't the Sun almost blatently lying there is no physical way that area could have possibly been above sea level at any time in the past. It's in an abyssal plain, formed by the mid atlantic spreading centre and first formed probably around 60-100 million years ago in a mile or two of water...

Anyway proper scientists think that if there is any chance of Atlantis actually having existed it was probably located in the Mediterranean, possibly near Gibraltar or Turkey, where uplift and collapse is possible.

In this case your correct, however just for information purposes the pacific is being destroyed bit by bit as it sinks under the American continents, its abyssal plains will vanish one day.

This thread is bringing back memories of this.

Well yes, because I was talking specifically about that area of the Atlantic.;)

The Pacific is a whole different kettle of fish though, with spreading ridges and destructive margins, so although some of its abyssal plains are being destroyed, new ones are being created all the time. That area of the Atlantic will probably also be subducted in a few tens of millions of years too, when the oceanic crust along the African continental margin possibly starts being subducted (generally though to be likely in the scientific community).

Anyway, I need to finish my geology dissertation on deep water turbidites... :p

OcUK please stop distracting me!

atlantis doesnt exist , from reading the text in its original languange , greek , i believe plato was matephoric about atlantis...he is sending out a message using a myth like atlantis.

Atlantis almost certainly exists, if this is it remains to be seen. Archaeologist like to discredit underwater evidence and I have no idea why. it's like the channels in Malta they date at a few thousand. yet the channels extend into the see and also have other structures in the sea. which must have been created before the last ice age. But as it's underwater it's dismissed

You'll love this stuff especially Yonaguni.
It's amazing that some people still say they are natural.
