doesnt matter anyway, its not got folding rear seats so out of the question. It kind of defeats the whole point of having a saloon, if you get a small boot (no hatchback version) and no way of extending it.
To the OP, if you want more power than the ST, and need the flexibility of a hatchback and folding rear seats, then may i suggest the Vectra VXR ?
Ignore the previously bad Top Gear TV Show Review, the car they tested had the IDS+ automatic damping control disabled. The production car handles much better, and Evo heaped praise onto it.
Downside is that the interior is no better than the ST220, so definately not an upgrade. But you do get more power and that lovely turbo kick
If you want an upgrade, you're going to be looking at something like a Jag Stype R, or something german (Audi RS4, E55 AMG etc..) but these will cost considerably more to run than an ST220 / Vectra. Major service for the vectra ? £230 from a dealer. You wont get that from an Audi / Merc
I expected this statement from a few. If you're brave and I really, really dare you, join the VXR Online forum and hear from real ST220 owners who went with VXR's. You'll be surprised.
Surely that would be like googling 'Patrick Stewart is Gay'? You're not gonna see people on a VXR forum saying they swapped their ST220 for a 5 series.
For what its worth if you need some space a 5 series touring is very possible.
IF the requirement is anything like mine its to stop the kids from kicking the hell out of the back of the front seats. My 407 has loads of legroom in for adults but with 2 kids in their seats, and especially the one in a baby seat they can reach the back of the drivers seat easily.

The VXR forum is a way of comparing the two from real people, not magazine jockeys, and despite urban legend, some people, just a few mind, can be objective on a forum. I know it's hard to see when clouded by OcUK Motors.

Forget the A4, BMW 3's and the Merc C class, they are all tiny compared to the mondeo. Also dont consider an S-type either, great cars, really good to drive, but the boot is only large enough to fit a small pencil in, one without a rubber on the end.
So, you want a car that's as big as a Mondeo, with fold down seats, that's as fast as an ST220 (even though you only drive in straight lines), you want it to be 'interesting', but you also want it to be a cheap to run?
Sounds like you've already got that car because you're criteria rules out anything else.

Never mentioned anything about being cheap to run dude. But the fact that the initial outlay for the likes of an S4 or an E55 would probably be double my budget and then £300 - £500 per service really does push the boat out for me.
I dont drive a 3.0 ltr sports car because I'm worried about running costs but they do have to be within limits. I dont have any form of debt and never have, so borrowing even a small amount for a car is not an option.
My criteria may rule out anything else but then that would be the reason I asked about the MPS to see if that would fit, I do still love the ST and am only looking because I fancy a change, if nothings work for me then I'll just keep it.
