LOTRO Free Trial and anyone still play?

think gamershell have the trial version patched upto Mines of Moria release if that helps, although its a big download you probably only need another small update once installed..

Anyone alive? Anyone still play this? The keyboard movement is unbelievably annoying but apart from that it's ok :D

Keyboard movememnt? cant say ive noticed that one. Didnt seem any different from the other mmos. Starting to get into this, got a burglar to 22, a minstrel to 23 and had a lot of fun. Just re-upped for my first month may stick with this for a while. loving the lore, the epic quests are great.

The combat is still a tad slow for the twitch player in me which is probably why I am enjoying the minstrel more than the burglar.

What world are you guys on quickly, making my first char now :p

Eldar here.

My main (Grimbrand - Champion) is lvl 56 now. Last couple of days have been awesome, I went on lvl 59/60 Moria instances with my kin and they are really good. The XP at my lvl was great too. And I didn't feel too useless in the group either even though everyone else was lvl 59/60 because a lot of mobs needed clobbering (interrupts induction skills) :)

I should really log in my other characters though, I was enjoying my lore master until I sort of abandoned him at lvl 17.

Yeah I've just started in this as well - got a Man Hunter but just at level 11 at this stage. Playing on the Nimrodel server out of the Combe at the moment. Player name is the same as here Steveobhave.

It's not a bad game at all - the graphics are lovely and so far everyone I've met in there seems alright. I've actually gone as far as buying the game - I may give this one a decent go - the only thing that I find a bit irritating is the grind but I think that's only because I haven't really gotten into the nitty gritty of it.

A good kin really adds a new dimension to the game.

For example, deeds. For those slayer deeds where you have to kill 120 or 300 of something, we group up and do them together, and have a chat (and most times a good laugh) as we do it.

Same thing for quests, sometimes the solo ones are still a bit hard to do alone, so we just get together with kinnies who are in the area and get them out of the way.

Crafting, same thing, I have a jeweler alt, but not advanced enough to polish every gem for my main character, so I just mail to a kin member who is a jeweler and he sends them back polished, then I return the favour in some other way.

There are some parts of the game I found quite fun to do solo though. Evendim and Eregion I mostly soloed and enjoyed all of it. Barrow Downs, Dol Dinen and Moria in general, far better in good company.

Which server do you lot normally play in and what is the name of your Kin? At this stage I'm probably a bit noobish to actually be of any benefit but it'd be good to know.

it depends on what you want, i resided on Snowbourn from beta for over a year and whilst its probably the most populated it also (imo) had the worst community .

moved over to Laurelin RP and havent looked back, im not into the RP side of it but some of the events are superb to watch, and the community is fantastic.

im hoping the next update Bk 7 fixes the Ettenmoors (PvP) as the freeps may aswell have been given grenades and machine guns, the imbalance is that bad since Mines of Moria release!

my advice to new players is to maybe roll a few alts on different servers, it doesnt take too long to get to lvl 10 plus and see which server suits you the best.

So the servers are all different environments or are they all the same just hosted in different places?

All the servers are the same game.

The only servers which are slightly different are the RP (Role-Play) ones, where the game is still exactly the same but the 'code of conduct' is that you should remain in character, i.e. role play your character.

Hmm that sounds interesting - I'm not sure I could really get my geek on enough to pull that off but it would be amusing/interesting to see how others do it.

RP servers have certain codes of conduct but your not forced to 'Roll Play', they are strict on names so you cant be called 'JohnnyHotPants' etc etc ..
those who do RP flag themselves via '/rp on' command which highlights their name in white.

ive been on Laurelin for half a year now and have never been refused a group for not RP'ing, its just i prefer the more mature nature of this type of server ..

also just started a Minstrel on lau this moonin, and will prob be on for most of the day .. anyone wants to tag along send 'Peloq' a tell :p

I have to say my experience with LOTRO in general is of a more mature or at least good natured community than other online games, RP or no RP.

Yeah, I only ever RP on it if someone else does, but it's good fun, especially around Bree and the prancing pony, there always seems to be loads of RP going on. Only mmo I've ever just hung around the pub listening to the conversations going on.

well i personally got the barter item for the radience helm which was pretty sweet.

we also had the barter item for the shoulders, a teal light and a teal medium armour peice and a whole bunch of settings and xp runes.

unfortunatly the 1st age item we received was a wardens club which at the moment no one can use sigh.

Lokion lvl 60 Minstrel
Lokio Lvl 60 Hunter

Officer United Kingdoms
Snowbourn

grats dude, i'm Dremwen from Echos of Edhellen on Snowbourn if you ever see us around, slowly working our way towards watcher at the moment, but we are taking our time, sometimes i think we are far too casual :P

So if you switch servers does your character follow or do you have to start again?

Characters are bound to the server you create them in, with a limit of 5 characters per server, 7 if you own the Mines of Moria expansion.

That said there is a premium service where you pay to have the character moved over to another server. Frankly I wouldn't spend money on such a thing, especially on a lower level character. (Though I can see why someone with a lvl 60 character that he's invested a lot of time on would).

I think its overpriced though. Maybe an administrative fee of £2, or free with a limit as to how often you can change server, but £11.99 is a bit steep. Its more than a month's subscription fee, for someone to basically do a few clicks to move your profile.

(The £5.99 character rename fee really withdraws the urine.)
