It is FUN
Its enjoyable
Its not draconian and a chore to complete
It has customization not seen in a sand box game to date.
You don't have to kill 100 pigeons.
The music is better, tears for fears, simple minds, run dmc, 50 cent, duran duran, kasabian etc.
It doesn't take itself seriously.
It has better weapons.
You can pick people up and throw them out windows.
It has planes.
Its story makes sense.
In game perks make the game more enjoyable.
You can spend your money on cars, cribs, guns, ammo, business, clothes etc.

I have am just about to complete SR2 and its miles better than GTA4, GTA4 is sleek but they should never have gone "realistic"

Roll on SR3

You dont have to kill 100 piegions in GTA4, you dont even have to kill all 200 if you dont want to.. its an achievement, many games have acheivements people wont bother with but as the story goes its not part of the main game.

I enjoyed GTA4 for what it offered as a game, it wasnt crazy mad like the previous games or indeed SR1 but I liked botjh games for the different experiences they were.

I havent played SR2 and will get it when its dirt cheap if its any good. But will probably get the lost and the damned first :)

and unlike GTA IV it doesn't constantly slow down to a crawl.

Laggy as hell on my PS3, main reason I gave up on it.
There are also horrible control issues somewhere, the first real mission (The undertown place) I spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to get the shacks to destroy properly :o

I'm sticking with Vice City, the best of the bunch IMHO.

Both are good in my opinion, but mostly for different reasons. That said, the GTA IV / SR2 comparison has been done to death now.

Some prefer one, some prefer the other. Shock horror as the human race shows signs of independent thought!

I was sorely disappointed with SR2 myself. The missions and story were reasonably decent, the cutscenes were interesting and the characters were quite amusing (especially when you use the Cockney-ish voice for your own character), but it was spoiled by fairly dull graphics, bland use of sound and abysmal vehicle handling. Every car, bus, truck or whatever handles in virtually the same horrible way and has no feel at all. Whereas in a game like GTA I'd be eager to try different vehicles, SR2 completely puts you off from doing that; instead of being a main element of the enjoyment to be had from the game, they merely become a necessary evil solely for getting from one place to the next.

It's a shame too, because the city itself was quite interesting and had some good little hidden bits, but driving around and messing about just wasn't fun when the vehicles are so frustrating to drive.

You do to some extent have more freedom and it certainly takes itself less seriously than GTA4, but I can't help but think that the developers took it less seriously too, hence why they ended up with a game that looks worse, in some respects plays worse, and is more fraught with bugs and glitches.

It's a real shame, because I was fully prepared to enjoy it, but the negative points I've mentioned are, for me at least, much more than just minor niggles. They really spoiled the game for me, and replay value (despite player customisation) was completely ruined as a result. GTA4 isn't perfect either, but it all just fits together better and 'feels' like a much more solid game.

What he said...

SR2 feels like a half arsed copy of GTA4. GTA4 for all it faults is a better game because I keep coming back to it.

I absolutely loved GTA4 but I've not tried Saints Row 2 yet, I tried Saints Row 1 but I didn't like the controls and how the vehicles handled. Is it any differant in SR2?

Agreed with the OP. Not happy about the handling but that's about the only thing. The final mission was win win win.

The problem with GTA 4 getting all these 10's is i fear the next installment of it is going to be the same.
