Why Saints Row 2 is better than GTA4

SR2 was excellent whilst GTAIV was ok but more realistic which TBH wasn't much fun which for me is important in a video game. I also detested the car handling in GTAIV

have to agree with the OP. GTA4 just didnt do it for me. Saints Row 2 however keeps me coming back for more. just wiped out the ronin and sons of samedi are next on my radar. played about 15 hours so far and am still only 29% thru the game, some of the side missions are great :D sceptic avenger and fuzz are quality :D

Those two sub missions of all things literally won me over the moment I played them. I have never giggled so hard at the thought of spraying people and buildings with sewage. You have to wonder who on earth came up with such a warped yet hilarious idea.

I've recently just completed Saints Row (the first one) and thought it was great, I'm really struggling to go back to GTA IV, it just seems so brown and serious...
Need to find SR2 cheap as it really looks great, it's more what I think the genre should be... Ridiculous.

Strange topic to cover so long after both have been out

I couldn't disagree more with the OP though tbh. I loved GTAIV and have played it through twice already and (very nearly) got 100% completion the second time through.

I was looking forward to SR2 but then when it finally came out I just found it a bit meh and got bored of it very very quickly.

I guess it's all subjective though - you're thread title should read "Why I prefer Saints Row 2 than GTA4". It's a bold statement to say it's definately better.

i think there is room for both in the market.

GTA should take a more gritty route and SR should just be bananas like it currently is.

Neither are perfect, GTA4 is the better of the two but it has regressed a lot since Vice City gameplay-wise and doesn't have the sheer depth of San Andreas, they've just started taking things too seriously and the fun factor has taken a back seat to character management rubbish in recent times.

I agree with what you say but i still prefer GTA4. I felt that SR2 was just the same old same it wasnt really an improvement more like an update.

The driving physics in SR2 are just suck so much that it annoys me when I play. I have it and will complete it one day but I prefer GTA IV

Thats about as truthfull as it gets for me, I'm going by SR though as I'm guessing the driving is the same as in SR2.

Playing the first 10 minutes of SR I thought it was fine running around right up until I got into a car, it annoyed the heck out of me for some reason, couldn't really put my finger on it.

Now someones pointed it out I totally agree, all vehicles had the same feel to them where as In GTA4 sports cards really do feel fast and Fire Trucks do really feel like fire trucks.

Might give Saints Row another go but I'm not too keen on it really.

hmmm i thought gta 4 sucked on the ps3 compared to previous gta games,i think it needs a overhaul as res 4 did...but i think ill give saints row 2 a whirl:)

If GTAIV had all the stuff that San Andreas had it would be awesome! But apart from the phone and the police system its aint far off GTAIII with updated graphics.

don't know how accurate it is, but 360voice.com says the following on my most played games since i got a 360.

Battlefield 2: MC 41 days
Jewel Quest 39 days
Saints Row 2 37 days
Hardwood Hearts 36 days
UNO 32 days
Test Drive Unlimited 31 days
Saints Row 29 days
Bejeweled 2 28 days
GTA IV 26 days
TiQal 26 days

my thoughts are that they are both class and i'm sure days played.... will rise on GTA, once i get the new content.

a bit bizzy trying to get the orb things in prince of persia at the mo.

TLAD>SR2>GTA4

in order of fun, gta4 was just too much of a grind. TLAD is the best thing that could have happened to GTA4 other than too much nudity :D

SR2 is horribly repetitive, so glad I only rented it. It got old quick taking down the gangs in boring ass, easy as pie, same old missions. Story was written by 200 monkeys with typewriters after they played GTA1, pretty sure of that.

It's like a freeware GTA game, for 12 year olds.

Imho, of course. ;)

I thought two main issues with GTA IV was the framerate and the combat. I thought the gunplay felt poor compared to past GTA games, The aiming and cover was done well however the guns just didn't feel right and they sounded pants.
