I think a pub pinched a fiver from me...

Why not explain to them and instead of asking for £5 back ask for a couple of free pints or a couple of bottles of something.

In a pub i worked at ages ago we would charge £5 for any transaction less than a fiver........the most stupid thing i have ever seen/heard of becuase when we told people this they would just buy crisps or a drink to make it reach the £5 mark so they didnt get charged.

Makes perfect sense to me. You then have crisps and a drink to consume later on, and you're not literally throwing away money.

However if it's like £4 worth of crisps, and the each packet is expensive, well...

Go to the restaurant and ask them. They must have a record of what you had for VAT purposes.

a pound to keep a tab open? What the hell? A tab is a tab.. it doesn't cost anything, it just means you're going to pay for all drinks between now and when you settle the tab in one go rather than on rounds.. I wouldn't have bothered with a tab if they were to ask for £1 'tab fee'

Call your bank and deal with it through them. If it's not a genuine transaction, the bank are the best people to deal with as you have no idea who at the pub put it through. Also, £5 may be a small amount of money, but 20% from every customer who pays with a card will soon add up.

Personally I Wouldn't go back to the pub, I'd report it to the CC as unauthorised. I might, if I were feeling charitable call the pub and ask the manager to explain first. You've no idea if they've done this with other people and how much extra they're making off of it if they are. Honest mistakes happen, but when it comes to credit cards, better safe than sorry.

If you signed for it or whatever, then you authorised it so don't think your bank/card issue people will help you.

I'm inclined to advise 'take the hit and be more careful' next time.

I didn't authorise a transaction for £5 though, neither do i have reciepts for it.

How do you know for sure it was the pub who took the £5? It normally takes my bank 3-4 days to post online transactions/give details about who took money out of my account.
