Man batters 21 Shetland seal cubs to death... for fun

Or go through your supermarket bins, stick finger in air and say several hundred thousand.

seems a reasonable estimate.

there's got to be over production because demand rises and falls, combined with risk of disease wiping out a crop. so that accounts for a lot. then there's spoilage/contamination (the whole world isn't exactly up to spec on the latest hygiene codes). combined with people irrational fear of use by/sell by dates meaning supermarkets waste huge amounts of perfectly good food.

I think a wastage figure of about 0.0015% is a reasonable guess wouldn't you? (probably a vast underestimate really)

I asked for some real facts and figures, you’re just making it up, can't you Google any for the UK?

it's difficult as it changes from week to week etc. and most hits are just for nutters and their food wastage campaign crap.

I don;t really care enough about this argument to bother.

oh and my maths was wrong meant to be 0.15%

You go look for figures if you want tot wade through the ins and outs od poultry production.

So for clubbing seals to death, he needs to be clubbed to death himself and you would be willing to do it? Do you not see perhaps a little bit of hypocrisy in your statement? :D

No, he deserves to be clubbed to death, the seals did not.

So in your idyllic world of violence, what would be the punishment for those who legally kill hundreds of thousands of seals or <insert anything that lives here> each year with clubs?

Depends how they kill them?

When I was younger, I once battered a frog to death, imagine if that got in the local news, I'd be hunted down , but it's ok as thousands of frogs are killed for food.

You have to read the whole scentence.

clubbing is the legal method.

No, No......but it's ok, it's ok to batter animals to death....

yep. that's what the law says. that's what happens to hundreds of thousands of seals every year.

Of course in this case i doubt the man had a licence nor was in season so it;s illegal as such he will be punished (if evidence can be found)

BOOM HEADSHOT!

"5,500 whole chickens were thrown away each day in the UK"

I can see where you are coming, you are basically saying, in short, that Human's killing Animals regardless of purpose is inhumane. At least that's how I perceive your argument.

But your stance on this does seem strange. Just mindlessly clubbing baby seals in the head for the fun is not the quite the same as killing for food or even the same as culling.

I'm not saying either of these are correct either, who gives humans the right to act in such a way? However man bashing in skulls for fun is barbaric, man killing for food, at the very least, could be argued is for survival. There are certainly different levels of acceptance to consider !
