We all know what the term means, it's just a harsh way of putting something that in our eyes shows as the same type of behavious, it's not as extreme as your typical paedophile where one will prey on very young children, however it's still possibly classed as a mild case as the child is still technically a minor.

The age of consent is an arbitary number. It doesn't actually mean the person is or isn't mature enough to know if they are ready to have sex. Because that actual age is so variable and will differ so much dependant on so many things it would be worthless for law-making. So we have the current age of consent laws which is the arbitary line in the sand. Some sixteen year olds will be mature enough to make that decision, some won't. Some 15 year olds will be mature enough to make that decision, some won't. Some 20 year olds will be mature enough to make that descision, some won't.
What exactly would your solution to it all be?
You can't have a 'mild case'. Either somebody is attracted to pre-pubescent children or they are not. A 31 year old dating a 16 year old does not make him a paedophile in any way. It may not be very comfortable for a lot of people, but that doesn't make him a pedo.

Even if it did the problem would still exist it would just be shifted 2 years. Or is a 33 year old bloke going out with an 18 year old girl OK? Because we all know that 18 year olds are so much more mature than 16 year olds!
I am still waiting for a suggestion on what the law should be.

You simply can't generalise like that, some 18 year olds are more mature than some 24/25 year old girls.
That is his point, and it is for those calling for a change in the law to explain how they would frame the wording of the new law.
